Garnett W. Higginbotham (1917-1922) SC

Westminster, Nov. 17 - Special

The little  five-year-old son of W. H. Higginbotham, who lives two miles below Westmonster, died last night from hydrophobia. The child, Garnett Higginbotham, was bitten by a mad dog on the 15th of October just past, and fears had been entertained ever since as to the child's condition and for the ultimate results. The child and the dog's head were taken at once to Columbia, where an examination was made and the dog declared to have been rabid. The little boy was given the Pasteur treatment, but it's effects were never very marked in the case, and he was never entirely normal again. About forty-eight hours before his death serious symptoms began to develop, and he went into convulsions, which finally terminated in his death. There are hosts of friends of the family in this section who sympathize deeply with them in their great sorrow.

William Henry Higginbotham (1871-1934) GA/SC

Seneca, Apr. 25 - William Henry Higginbotham, 63, died at his home, 19 Goddard Ave., Lonsdale, Tuesday night following a long illness. He had been a resident of Oconee County for 29 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Etta Higginbotham; two sisters, Mrs. M.M. Chastain, Kannapolis, N.C., and Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Royston, Ga.; four sons, Fay, J.P., Doyle and Cecil Higginbotham, all of Lonsdale; five daughters, Mrs. J.F. Graham, Six Mile, Mrs. R.N. Ellis, Anderson, Mrs. E.D. Weathers, Misses Bessie Bell and Ruby Higginbotham, all of Lonsdale, and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from Ann Hope Methodist Church, Lonsdale, at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning by the Rev. W.S. Peters. Interments will follow in Center Methodist Church Cemetery near Oakway.

Lizzie Higingbottom Kelley (ca1908-1934) SC

Mrs. Leroy Kelley of the Foxtown section died Wednesday in the Aiken County Hospital. She was 25 years of age.

Surviving, besides her husband, are one small son and one small daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Higginbotham of New Holland; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Herron of Aiken, Mrs. Henry Cook, Misses Reba and Margaret Higginbotham, of New Holland; six brothers, Riley Higginbotham of Foxtown, Oscar Higginbotham of Aiken, Wyman, Curtis, Fred and Hastings Higginbotham of New Holland.

Funeral services were held yesterday morning from the Merritt’s Bridge Christian Church, interment following in the churchyard.

Ray Thomas Higginbotham (1906-1947) LA/SC

Funeral services for Ray Thomas Higginbotham, 40 years old, of Georgetown were held from his residence, Wednesday morning with the Rev. H.P.J. L’heureux, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery annex.

Mr. Higginbotham died at his home in Winyah Heights at 10 o’clock Sunday night after an illness of several months.

He was born in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana, on November 16, 1906, and was a son of the late Mr. Jimmy Higginbotham and the late Mrs. Edna Melwee Higginbotham. He was educated in the schools of Bastrop and Panama City, Fla., and attended business school at Shreveport, La. He became connected with the Southern Kraft corporation at Bastrop about 17 years ago, being transferred to Georgetown when that concern started operating their Georgetown plant in June, 1937. At the time of his death he was foreman of the finishing department of the paper mill. Mr. Higginbotham was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Ethel Aaron Clark, and a daughter, Miss Edna Higginbotham, both of Georgetown, and three sisters, Mrs. Sylvan Friedman and Mrs. S.R. Thomas, both of Natchez, La., and Mrs. E.F. Ayraud, of Woodville, Miss.

Those forming the honorary escort were C.L. Crain, Dr. J.T. Assey, Dr. Mozeley and Dr. Boone, and members of the finishing department of the Georgetown plant of the International Paper Co.

Bay Rum Toast Kills Mechanics

Charleston, S.C., July 4-Two mechanics died early today from the effects of drinking Fourth of July cocktails made of paint remover and bay rum.

Coroner John P. Deveaux said S.C. Browning and Rubin C. Higgenbotham began their celebration last night.

Neighbors summoned the fire department crash wagon this morning when they noticed “something wrong” in the apartment occupied by the pair. Both refused to go to the hospital in the crash wagon.

Detectives arrived about an hour later and found Browning and Higgenbotham dead.

Doyle William Higginbotham (1913-1956) SC

Anderson, Sept. 25 - Doyle W. Higginbotham, 43, died at Veterans Hospital in Columbia at 7:15 p.m. Monday. He had been ill for four weeks. He was a native of Oconee County but had lived in Anderson for the past 22 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of World War II. He is the son of Mrs. Etta Teasley Higginbotham and the late William Higginbotham.

Surviving are his mother, his wife, Mrs. Esther Beacham; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ruby Stoffel of Greenville; one step-son, James Allen of Belton; five sisters, Mrs. Essie Graham, Mrs. Edith Ellis and Mrs. Ruby Clark, all of Anderson, Mrs. Avis Weathers of Walhalla and Mrs. Bessie Bell Heaton of Spartanburg; two brothers, Fay and Cecil Higginbotham, both of Anderson, and seven step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4:30 p.m. from Calvary Baptist Church in Anderson by the Rev. W.A. Williams. Burial will be in Silver Brook Cemetery.

The body is at Gray Mortuary and will be carried to the home, 215 Norris St. at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.

Anderson - Mrs. Etta Higginbotham, 78, died on arrival at an Anderson hospital Monday at 4:45 p.m. She lived at 1103-A Ella St.

She was born in Franklin County, Ga. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, B. Fay Higginbotham of Seneca and Cecil Higginbotham of Anderson; five daughters, Mrs. Roy Heaton of Greenville, Mrs. Eddie Weathers of Walhalla and Mrs. Floyd Graham, Mrs. R.M. Ellis and Mrs. Guy Clark, all of Anderson; two sisters, Mrs. Bill Garrison and Mrs. Verge Minyard of Anderson; three hald-brothers, Clayton, Paul and Lege, all of Anderson; two half-sisters, Mrs. Carrie Merritt and Mrs. Agatha Gibson, both of Anderson.

Funeral services will be conducted at the chapel at Sullivan-King Mortuary Wednesday at 11 a.m. by teh Rev. W.A. Williams and the Rev. G. Lewis Gibson.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

The body is at the mortuary. The family is at the residence of Mrs. Clark, on Calhoun St. Ext.

Rosa Belle Gibson Higginbotham (1912-1962) SC

Anderson - Mrs. Rosa Higginbotham, 49, of Rt. 4, Anderson, died Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at a local hospital after several months of declining health and 10 days of illness.

She was born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Gibson. She was a member of Anderson Baptist Church. She had lived in the McLees community before moving to Anderson.

Surviving are her husband, B.F. Higginbotham; six sons, Billy Ray Gibson of Anderson, James Higginbotham, Roger Dale, Ronald, Raymond and Winfred Higginbotham, all of the McLees section; a stepson, LaVerne Higginbotham of Anderson; four daughters, Mrs. Winfred Richardson of the McLees community, Mrs. Paul Martinis of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Linda Higginbotham and Miss Jeanette Higginbotham, both of Anderson; two brothers, George and Callas Gibson, both of Walhalla; three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Foster of Greer, Mrs. Julie Bridges and Mrs. Nell Conwell, both of Anderson.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Andersonville Baptist Church by Rev. John Wright. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harold Bridges, Bill Foster, Harold and Carl Gibson, Charlie Blume and Ronald Graham.

Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class.

The body is at the home of a stepson, Laverne Higginbotham, in the Roberts community. McDougald Funeral Home is in charge.

Myrtle Higginbotham Groeschel (1904-1966) FL/SC

Mrs. Sidney C. Groeschel, 61, 1321 Hansford Ave., died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon in Columbia Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Mrs. Groeschel, the former Myrtle Higginbotham, was born in Yulee, Fla., daughter of the late West and Julia Hansford Higginbotham. She had lived more than 40 years in Columbia, where she was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and choir.

Mrs. Groeschel was a graduate of Columbia College, past president and member of the local Columbia College Alumna Association of Columbia College. She was organizer of the Quint Club and chairman of the Past Presidents of the Club, and was recently made a member of the Columns Club of the Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Alumni Choir and contributed to all activities of the college. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Post No. 6 Auxiliary and a member of the Womans Club.

Surviving is her husband Sidney C. Groeschel, retired director of Veterans Administration Hospital.

Funeral services are incomplete.

Robert Green Higginbotham (1898-1970) GA/SC

Williamston-Robert Higginbotham, 72, of 16 Mahafey Drive, died Tuesday.

He was a native of Hartwell, Ga., a son of the late James and Mary Thompson Higginbotham. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Williamston Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hellen McCallister, Mrs. Evelyn Manley and Mrs. Mary Horne of Williamston and Mrs. Doris Jordon of Bossier, La.; six sons, James and Gerald Higginbotham of Williamston, Earl Higginbotham of Sumter and Airman 1C C. L. Higginbotham of the US Air Force in England; three brothers, Dock Higginbotham of Iva and Dave and Lovic Higginbotham of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Odie Simpson of Anderson; and 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Funeral services for Robert Green Higginbotham, 72, of 16 Mahafey St., Williamston, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. J. C. Byars and V. E. Gilreath officiating. Burial will be in the Iva City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Junior Riddle, Donnie Davenport, Albert Frasier, Jimmy Saxon, Dean Horne and Robert Bear.

Members of the Men's Bible Class of the Wesleyan Methodist Church will form the escort of honor.

Mr. Higginbotham, a native of Hart County, Ga., died at 11 a.m. Tuesday in an Anderson hospital after a brief illness.

The body will be at the residence after 3 p.m. Friday with Gray Mortuary of Pelzer in charge.

Fred Andrew Higingbottom (1924-1970) SC/DE

Funeral Services for Fred Andrew Higingbottom, 45, of 702 Milltown Road, wh was accidentally electrocuted Sunday while trimming trees, will be held in Aiken, S.C.

Friends may call after 7 this evening at the McCrery Funeral Home, 3010 Kirkwood Highway, Prices Corner. The services and burial in Aiken will be held at a later date.

Mr. Higingbottom, an employee of Truitt's Riding Academy, was killed when his head brushed a wire while he was working on the academy grounds.

Mr. Higingbottom had never married. He was a member of the Brandywine Polo Club.

He is survived by six brothers, Raleigh, Oscar and David, all of Aiken, Curtis of Eastman, Ga., Hasting of Eureka, S.C., and Wyman of Batesburg, S.C.; and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Herron, Mrs. Henry Cook and Mrs. W.A. Fulmer, all of Aiken and Mrs. John Cano of Chicago.

He was an employee of the Aiken Asphalt Co. He was a Baptist.

Greenwood-James Lovic Higginbotham, 78, of 219 Kitson St., died Tuesday.

Born in Hart Co., Ga., son of the late James Melvin and Mary Thompson Higginbotham, he was a member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, where he taught the Men's Bible Class for many years, an honorary steward and former superintendent of Sunday School Department, a retired employee of Greenwood Mills and a member of Quarter Century Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lessie Stone Higginbotham; a son, Quentin Higginbotham of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Odie Simpson of Anderson; two brothers, Dave Higginbotham of Greenwood and Dock Higginbotham of Iva; and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lowell Street United Methodist Church.

A native of Seneca, son of the late William Henry and Etta Teasley Higginbotham, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a Baptist.

Surviving are a brother, Bueron Fay Higginbotham of Anderson; and five sisters, Mrs. Essie H. Graham, Mrs. R. N. Ellis, Mrs. Bruce John of Anderson, and Mrs. E.D. Weathers of Walhalla and Mrs. Roy Heaton of Mooresville, N.C.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, with burial in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

Nancy Elizabeth Higingbottom Herron, 72, 456 Horry St., died Friday at an Aiken County hospital.

Funeral services were yesterday at the George Funeral Home Chapel with the Bishop Ted Evans officiating. Burial was in Bethany Cemetery.

A native of Edgefield County, Mrs. Herron was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Aiken. She was also a member of the Mormon’s Relief Society. She was the widow of John F. Herron.

Seneca - Carter C. Higginbotham, 64, of Route 2, Cherokee Gardens, died Friday.

He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, after 29 years, serving in World War II, the Berlin airlift, the Korean and Vietnam wars. Among his decorations was the Silver Star.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Martin Higginbotham; sons, Carter C. Higginbotham of Fort McPherson, Ga., and Milton J. Higginbotham of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Mrs. W. H. Carithers of Atlanta, Ga.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oconee Memorial Park.

Batesburg-Harriet Burgess Higingbottom, a sister of Juanita Higingbottom of Aiken and Irene Fox of Monetta, died Saturday.

The funeral was yesterday at Mount Hermon True Light Church, Samaria, with the Revs. Flake Brazell and John Rabon officiating.

Mrs. Higingbottom, 66, a Lexington County native, was a member of Mount Hermon True Light Church and a retired employee of the Graniteville Co.

Pallbearers were Johnny, Earle and Terry Burgess, Harvey Boatwright, Victor and Mickey Hall, Ronnie Higingbottom, Randy Fox and Frankie Wise.

Memorials may be made to Mount Hermon True Light Church.

He was a retired textile worker and carpenter.

Surviving are five sons, Beuron LaVerne Higginbotham of Anderson, James Denver "Buddy" Higginbotham of Odessa, Texas, Raymond Eugene Higginbotham of Bryant, Ala., William Ronnie Higginbotham of Pelzer and David Winford Higginbotham of San Bernardino, Calif.; a step-son, Billy Ray Gibson of Anderson; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jeanette) Vermillion of Donalds, Mrs. Winford (Barbara) Richardson of Cateechee, Mrs. Paul (Ruby) Martin of Brookfield, Ill., and Mrs. Bobby (Linda) Small of Anderson; and three sisters, Mrs. Eddie (Avis) Weathers of Walhalla, Mrs. R.H. (Bessie Belle) Heaton of Greenville, and Mrs. Bruce (Ruby) Johnson of Anderson.

She was a retired employee of J. P. Stevens & Co. Inc. and a member of Utica Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelby Jean Hawkins of Seneca and Laura Hairston of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Harold Higginbotham of Gadsden, Ala.; and three sisters, Lucy Adams, Clara Higginbotham and Jeanette Crankford, all of Gadsden, Ala.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Utica Baptist Church, with burial in Oconee Memorial Park.

A native of Wilson, S.C., she was educated at Peace Academy in Raleigh, Agnes Scott College in Atlanta and Columbia University in New York. She was a former resident of Black Mountain, N.C.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly L. Balentine of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Warren Banks Higginbotham of New York City; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.

She was a homemaker and a member of the College Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth Weathers of Spartanburg; two daughters, Annette Whitworth of Columbia and Mrs. John N. (Virginia) Luther of Piedmont; and two sisters, Bessie Heaton of Greenville and Ruby Johnson of Anderson.

Wyman Kelder Higingbottom (1916-1990) SC

Batesburg-Wyman Kelder Higingbottom died Friday, July 27, 1990, after a short illness.

Mr. Higingbottom, 74, resided at 6748 Fairview Road. Born in Aiken County, he was the son of the late William Charles and Lena Glaze Higingbottom. He was a retired textile employee of the Graniteville Company. He worked for the company for 50 years.

Mr. Higingbottom, who was married to the late Harriet Burgess Higingbottom, attended Mt. Herman Truelite Church of Batesburg.

Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Herman Truelite Church with the Revs. John Rabon and Rayford Price officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a daughter, Geneva Amick of Batesburg; a son, George Higingbottom of Batesburg; four brothers, Riley Higingbottom of Aiken, Oscar Higingbottom of Aiken, Davis Higingbottom of Aiken, and Curtis Higingbottom of Eastman, Ga.; three sisters, Sadie Cook of Aiken, Reba McCann of Grovetown, Ga., and Margaret Fulmer of New Holland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be the nephews.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, 6720 Fairview Road, or the Milton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg.

Rock Hill - Mrs. Margaret N. Higginbotham, 86, of 549 Arch Dr. died Aug. 28, 1991 at home. Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Ammons officiating. The family will receive friends at 4006 Wade St. Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

A native of Dillon, Mrs. Higginbotham was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star Catawba Chapter No. 131, past worthy matron of the Grant Park Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Atlanta, a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls for three years, and grandmother advisor of Rainbow Girls for the state of Georgia for one year. She was the widow of Harry Higginbotham.

Survivors are her sister, Mrs. J.V. Jacobs; one granddaughter, four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Davis Charles Higingbottom (1920-1994) SC

Davis C. Higingbottom died Monday, April 11, 1994, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Mr. Higingbottom, 73, resident at 1484 Edgefield Highway, Aiken.

Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Mt. Herman True Light Church of Christ, Batesburg, with the Rev. John Raborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Aiken, Mr. Higingbottom was a retired textile worker and a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He was a member of Mt. Herman True Light Church of Christ. He was a lifelong resident of Aiken. He retired from the Graniteville Co. after 44 years of service.

He was a son of the late William and Lena Glaze Higingbottom.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Burgess Higingbottom; two sons, David M. Higingbottom, Erin, Tenn., and Ronnie L. Higingbottom, Batesburg; three daughters, Patsy H. McGee, Lois H. Cornwell, and Karen Higingbottom, all of Aiken; three sisters, Sadie H. Cook and Margaret H. Fulmer, both of Aiken, and Reba H. McCann, Evans, Ga.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Memorial may be made to the American Heart Association, 1003 Hammond Road, Aiken, 29801.

Friends may call at the residence of at the funeral home, or at the church one hour prior to service.

Wagener-Margaret Higingbottom Fulmer died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Mrs. Fulmer, 73, resided at 5814 Wagener Road.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Rev. Doug Cramer will officiate. Burial will be in Merritts Bridge Christian Church Cemetery.

A native of Aiken County, Mrs. Fulmer was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lena Green Higingbottom.

She was the widow of William Albert Fulmer.

Surviving are four daughters, Jerlene (Jerri) Tinkle, Martinez, Ga., Catherine (Cathy) Robertson, Hueytown, Ala., Peggy Turner, Vaucluse, and Joyce (Joy) McLane, Lexington; three sons, Buddy Fulmer, Graniteville, Richard Fulmer, Warrenville, and Glen Fulmer, Lexington; three brothers, Oscar Higingbottom and Riley Higingbottom, both of Aiken, and Curtis Higingbottom, Eastman, Ga.; and one sister, Sadie Cook, Aiken.

North Augusta-Sadie Higingbotham Cook died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at National Health Care.

Mrs. Cook, 91, resided at 350 Austin Graybill Road.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Aiken Church of God. The Rev. Bruce Fox will officiate. Burial will be n the Aiken Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Aiken County, Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late Will and Lena Gaze Higingbotham. She was retired from the Graniteville Co.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the South Aiken Church of God.

She was the widow of Henry Cook.

Surviving are one son, Henry Cook, Aiken; one daughter, Mary Cook Garnto, Aiken; three brothers, Oscar Higingbotham, Aiken, Riley Higingbotham, Foxtown, and Curtis Higingbotham, Eastman, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

 GASTON -- Barbara Ann Brenaman Self Higginbotham, 63, of 121 Baird St., Gaston, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Higginbotham was born in Portsmouth, Va., the daughter of the late William Floyd Brenaman Sr. and Elsie Castine Brenaman. She was the widow of Patrick A. Higginbotham Sr. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Millard Brenaman.
In 1980 she graduated from Roanoke-Chowan Technical Institute and was a nurse with Guardian Care until she retired.
She is survived by five daughters, Pamela F. Roldan of Burbank, Calif., Patricia H. Snyder of Virginia Beach, Va., Barbara A. Wills of McColl, S.C., Elsie E. Merck of Loris, S.C., and Charity L. Morrin of Gaston; five sons, Gene L. Self of Grouten, Conn., Jon J. Self of Gaston, Patrick A. Higginbotham Jr. of McColl, William A. Higginbotham of Greenville, and Nelson Lynch of Gaston; five sisters, Rachel Jones of Washington, N.C., Mary Railey of Suffolk, Va., Rose Shea and Margaret Garcia, both of Portsmouth, and Elsie Ferguson of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, W. Floyd Brenaman Jr. and Walter Brenaman, both of Portsmouth, and Herbert Brenaman of Virginia Beach; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

 CONWAY, S.C. - Lucille H. Brown, 81, wife of the late Arnie James Brown of Gilbert Road, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Brown was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Callahan, Fla., daughter of the late Melvin and Lottie Jeanette Ryalls Higginbotham. She was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church and was a very active member of the Bucksport Senior Center. Mrs. Brown was predeceased by one daughter, Lottie Jeanette Brown; and three brothers, Herschel Higginbotham, Frazier Higginbotham, and Aubrey Higginbotham.
Surviving are one daughter, Terri Ann Cummings and her husband, Michael L. of Sneads Ferry, two brothers, Henry Ronald Higginbotham of Callahan, Fla., and Thomas Higginbotham and his wife, Viola of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Leverne Meeks of Callahan, Fla.

Martha Jo Ann Dowis Higginbotham, 70, of 216 Abbey Lane, widow of Leroy Higginbotham, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Agnes Vaughn Dowis. She was a 1951 graduate of Greenwood High School and attended the Anderson Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from the Greenwood County Health Department. A member of South Main Street Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Couple’s II Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie A. Bouknight of Richmond, Texas and Sandra H. Reed of Honea Path; four grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Richard McWhite. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 2-3 today at the funeral home.

Cateechee - Barbara Jean Richardson, 66, of 216 North St., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Fay and Rose Higginbotham and was the widow of the late Winford Richardson. She was retired from Greenwood Mill and was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Ann Bagwell of Cateechee; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Richardson of Columbia and Larry and Patsy Richardson of Cateechee; two sisters; six brothers; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be before the service from 12:30 to 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Warren B. Higginbotham died Aug. 20, 2004, in New York City, N.Y.
Mr. Higginbotham was born in Asheville, N.C., on March 8, 1927. He grew up in Greenville, S.C., and attended the Greenville Public schools. Upon his graduation from Davidson College, he entered Wharton Business School, earning a masters degree.
His business career began with New York Life Insurance Co. in Atlanta and New York City. He subsequently joined the firm of Lionel D. Edie, becoming Vice-President. He also worked for Merrill Lynch Co. and Argus Research Co. until his retirement.
Mr. Higginbotham was a long-time member of Brick Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his sister, Beverly H. Balentine, and her husband, W.H. Balentine III, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Martha Higginbotham, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two nieces, Laura Jeu de Vine, of Atlanta, Ga., and Sarah H. Koski, of Richmond, Va.; and a nephew, David Higginbotham, of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Steane officiating.

Born in Stevens County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George Washington and Pearl Bailey Higginbotham. She retired from Oxford Industries and was active in city league and Oxford softball. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Hartwell, Ga.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Lucas of Hartsville; a sister, Sarah Ertzberger of Hartwell; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Michael Lewellyn.

Mrs. Bessie Higginbotham Heaton, age 89, of Gray, Ga., formerly of Anderson and Greenville, S.C., wife of the late Roy Heaton, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in Macon, Ga.

Born in Toccoa, Ga., on Aug. 15, 1915, Mrs. Heaton was a daughter of the late Will Higginbotham and Etta Teasley Higginbotham. She was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Forest Hills Methodist Church in Macon, Ga. She was a former member of West Gantt Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C.

She is survived by a son, Don Heaton of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Penny Heaton of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Ruby Johnson of Anderson, S.C.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. James L. Johnson.

Interment will follow in Old Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, S.C.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Feb. 19, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was born in Fire Creek, WV to the late Jesse and Hazel Higginbotham and lived in Aiken most of her life. She was member of Corinth Baptist Church and had been a foster mother to many children over the years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bennett is predeceased by her husband, Harold W. Bennett, a brother, David Higginbotham, and two sisters, Lillian McKinney and Helen Thomas. Mrs. Bennett is survived by four daughters, Connie Jeffreys (Steve), Killeen, TX, Sherri Atkinson (Lenny), Aiken, Cindy Haynie (Sigman), Grovetown, GA and Becky Bennett, Augusta, GA; two sisters, Hazel Adkisson and Jessie Houchins, Cocoa Beach, FL, and a brother, Charlie Higginbothom, Cocoa Beach, FL.  WILLIAMSTON - Minnie Evelyn Higginbotham Manley, 75, of 16 Mahaffey Road, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 in Greenville.
Born in Williamston on May 12, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. Higginbotham and Susie Johnson Higginbotham. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan Church in Belton.
Surviving are widower, Marvin W. Manley of the home; brothers, William "Bill" Higginbotham of Azel, Texas, Earl Higginbotham and Jerold Higginbotham, both of Williamston, Roy Gene Higginbotham of Travelers Rest and C. L. Higginbotham of Roebuck; and sisters, Doris Jordan of Griffin, Ga. and Mary Horne of Williamston.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Robert Manley; two sisters, Helen McAlister and Frances Higginbotham; and a brother, James Higginbotham.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant View Wesleyan Church in Belton by the Revs. Herbert Taylor and Jonathan Payne. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

KENNESAW, Ga. — James Daniel “Jim” Higginbotham, 76, of 4150 George Busbee Parkway, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell.
Born in Anderson County, S.C., he was a son of the late Alvin C. and Fannie Crocker Higginbotham. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, Lander College, Greenwood, S.C., and John Marshall Law School, Atlanta. A Navy veteran, he formerly owned and operated B & H Interiors and EEE Interiors in Woodstock. He was a member of VFW and American Legion and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include three sons, James Tamarack, of Savannah, Dr. Bruce W. Higginbotham, of Seattle, and Gary A. Higginbotham, of Alpharetta; two sisters, Bernice H. West of Greenwood ,and Beatrice H. Entrekin, of Easley; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Furman Entrekin. Burial is in Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta, Ga.

Bruce Norman Higginbotham, 60, resident of 225 Sylvan Road, husband of Joyce Stallworth Higginbotham, went to be with his Lord and Savior Dec. 28, 2006 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Greenwood, April 17, 1946, he was the son of Bruce N. and Lois Vickery Higginbotham. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Piedmont Technical College and was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Norman retired from the US Postal Service after 36 years of service. Since retirement, he had been employed by Blyth Funeral Home.
A member and former Deacon of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Outreach Sunday School Class and the Adults for Joy Seniors Group.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home and parents of Greenwood are a son, Jeff N. and wife, Melissa Higginbotham of Greenwood and a daughter, Amy Higginbotham Smoak and husband, Bryan of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Zachery Smoak and Ansley Higginbotham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rice Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Alvin Hodges and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating.

WILLIAMSTON — Bobby Jerold Higginbotham, age 69, husband of Jackie Elaine Horne Higginbotham, of 1789 Big Creek Road, Belton, SC, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at his residence.
Born in Anderson County, Mr. Higginbotham was a son of the late Robert Higginbotham and Susie Johnson Higginbotham. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in Williamston, SC and was a member of the Pelzer Church of God. Mr. Higginbotham served in the National Guards for 10 years.
In addition to his wife, Jackie Elaine Horne Higginbotham of the home, he is survived by his sons, Charles and Bobby Higginbotham of the home; daughters, Denyse Wright and Melissa Higginbotham, both of Williamston, SC; brothers, Earl, his twin brother, of Williamston, SC, C.L. of Roebuck, SC, Roy Gene of Travelers Rest, SC, and William of Azle, TX; sisters, Mary Horne of Williamston, SC, and Doris Jordan of Yatesville, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sheila and Tony Wright, and Autumn and Carter Higginbotham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Higginbotham and his sisters, Evelyn Manley, Helen McAlister, and Frances Higginbotham.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Pelzer Church of God officiated by the Reverend Tony Edwards. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Jeffery was an integral part of the Narcotics Anonymous, "The Breath Group", Christian Motorcyclist Association, The Start Program at Aiken Christian Outreach Ministries, Hospital and Institution Twelve Step Program. He attended Aiken Church of Christ. He was a welder. He worked for Enloe Residential for three years and with Carolina Tire Company for the past twelve years.

Born August 26, 1921 in Hart County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Ora L. and Lucy Jim Hall Vickery. A homemaker, she was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Senior Citizens Group, served fifteen years teaching kindergarten classes and was a member of the Mason Sunday School Class and the WMU of the church.   In addition to her husband of the home are two grandchildren, Jeff Higginbotham and wife, Melissa and Amy H. Smoak and husband, Bryan; two great-grandchildren, Ansley and Zack; and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Higginbotham, all of Greenwood. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Higginbotham was predeceased by son, Norman Higginbotham and an infant son who died at birth; three sisters and one brother.   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 PM at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Faye Andrews Higginbotham Fishburne (1920-2009) SC

SUMTER - Faye Andrews Fishburne, 88, beloved wife of 59 years to Henry Gordon Fishburne, died Monday, January 12, 2009, in National Healthcare Center. Born October 9, 1920, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Carnell Andrews. Mrs. Fishburne received her high school diploma from Bishopville High School in 1938. She worked as a dental assistant in Hartsville before starting her civil service career at Maxton AFB, NC. Soon after this, she married Norman Earl Higginbotham. She transferred to Fort Campbell, KY, and later to Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC, where they lived. Norman died in 1949 and she then married Henry G. Fishburne. She continued her civil service career at Shaw AFB with 30 years of service. She retired in 1976. She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter for many years, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Thomas Higginbotham of Columbia, and Betty Faye Coates of Sumter; three grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the sweetest mother any child could ask for. In addition to her family, she had many close friends and neighbors all saying that Faye “was the sweetest woman they had ever known.” She will be dearly missed. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. John M. Barr and the Rev. Hamilton Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be her beloved grandson, nephews and great-nephews. The family will receive friends following the service at the home, 35 Loring Place. WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Billy Lee Higginbotham, 82, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday November 2, 2009, at Palmetto Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday November 1, 2009, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.   Mr. Higginbotham died Saturday October 31, 2009. Born in Nallen, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Otho and Nellie Myrta Elkins Higginbotham. He received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and a BS degree in Chemical Engineering electives at West Virginia University. He was a member of Palmetto Church of Christ, had a general license in HAM radio and was an Eagle Scout.   Bill was employed by Allied Chemical for over 29 years. As part of the start-up team for Allied Chemical in Irmo, he traveled to Italy and lived there for several weeks, to learn and write the procedures for the Irmo plant. He also did consulting work for Allied Chemical in Spain and Tehran, Iran.   Bill served in the US Navy during World War II, seeing action in the South Pacific aboard Admiral Kincaid’s Flagship during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.   Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Gerry Hanna Higginbotham; daughter, Jeanie Beckham (Bill) of West Columbia; son, Steven Higginbotham of Columbia; grandson, B.J. A graveside service will be Monday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends after the graveside service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Ruby Higginbotham Clark Johnson, 90, of Anderson, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at NHC of Anderson. Born October 16, 1919 in Seneca, she was the daughter of the late William and Etta Teasley Higginbotham. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Smith of Williamston and Carolyn Owens of Anderson; two sons, Denny Clark and Bobby Clark, both of Anderson; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was twice married, first to the late James Guy Clark, Sr. and second to the late James Bruce Johnson. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Clark, a grandson, Travis Clark, six brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Gene Burdette. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Josef Ernest Higginbotham - A native of Elizabeth City, W.V., Mr. Higginbotham was born October 19, 1951, son of the late Ernest Stanley and Naomi Wright Higginbotham. Mr. Higginbotham was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Lake Wylie where he served as Sunday School teacher. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Ivey Lanford Higginbotham and four sons, Thomas and Jarius Higginbotham and Lee and Emanuel Duvall. Marjorie Lou Higginbotham Oyler, 93, widow of Harry Oyler, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice House. Born on December 14, 1918, in Sutton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Glen Higginbotham and the late Lulu Lombard Higginbotham. Mrs. Oyler a member of Wayne United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include five children, James Oyler (Marcheta Landress) of Eufaula, AL, Karen Van Vlake (Richard) of Myrtle Beach, Ann Robertson of Pawleys Island, Sherry Goldston of Georgetown and John Oyler (Rhonda) of Savannah, GA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Murrells Inlet Joan Marie Higginbotham Cook, 80, of Murrells Inlet, died on November 28, 2012 at home. Born at the Chelsea Memorial Hospital and raised in Winthrop, MA. She was the daughter of Helen and Joseph Higginbotham. She is survived by her children, Edmund C. Cook of Cobleskill, NY, Pamela Cook Ward and her husband, Christopher O. Ward of New York City; grandchildren, Katherine Helen Ward of London, UK and John Cook Ward of Austin, TX. She is the sister of Joseph (Martina), the late Paul, David (Josephine), Ruth Loughran (Jim), the late John and Robert (Mary Ellen). She graduated from Fitton High School in 1949 and was a Massachusetts Superior Court reporter serving the Western Massachusetts counties. Joan never lost her sense of humor.  Anderson, SC John Keith Higginbotham, Sr., 92, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Elberton, Ga., he was the son of the late Joe B. and Hattie Gaines Higginbotham. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Higginbotham was a graduate of Rutgers University and was a retired banker. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for many years. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sara C. Higginbotham; and one son, Keith Higginbotham of Columbia. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Rebecca Ann Higginbotham McAbee Greenville Rebecca Ann Higginbotham McAbee, 54, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 11, 2015. She is survived by her son, Michael McAbee; her mother, Lucille Higginbotham; her sisters, Diana Sinclair and Linda Linehan; and her three grandchildren, Brooklin, Cody, and Madison. She is preceded in death by her father, Everett Higginbotham; and her brothers, Dana Higginbotham and David Higginbotham. Rebecca dearly loved her family and cats - she loved her cats like they were her children. She was also an avid collector of Coca-Cola merchandise. If she was not collecting or spending time with her family or cats, she was watching her favorite shows on TV and working on word search puzzles. She was a longtime member of Washington Avenue Church of God. The memorial service will be held at Hampton Park Baptist Church, 875 State Park Road, on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Collins Building.

Born in Elbert County GA, May 15, 1921, he was a son of the late Larry B. and Annie Florie Goss Higginbotham. He was a graduate of Centerville High Scholl in Elberton GA and retired from Devore Andrews Co. in Greenwood. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Mr. Higginbotham was also a member and past president of the Featherstone Bible Class and also served on the church Board of Trustees. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Higginbotham was predeceased by a son, Norman Higginbotham and a sister, Willena Higginbotham Adams. He is survived by two grandchildren, Jeff Higginbotham and wife Melissa and Amy H. William Clarence Higginbotham, Jr. (1932-2016) SC

ORANGEBURG - William Clarence Higginbotham Jr.,84, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 14, 2016. Visitation will be this Saturday, December 17th, at St. Andrews United Methodists Church Fellowship Hall at 1:30 p.m., to be followed by services in the sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at New Hope U.M.C. Cemetery in Rowesville. The Reverends Robert and Carol Cannon, and the Reverend Sandra Whetsell will officiate. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Clarence was born in Rowesville, SC, March 9, 1932, to the Late William Clarence Higginbotham, Sr., and Rosa Elizabeth Dukes Higginbotham. He attended Rowesville Schools as a young boy, and graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1950. A 1954 graduate of Clemson College, he spent the next six decades supporting his alma mater in every way possible. He was an IPTAY Representative, a Lifetime Scholarship Donor, Clemson Alumni Association Lifetime Member, and Edisto Clemson Club President. On Saturdays in the fall he could be found in Section O, Row P at Memorial Stadium cheering on his Tigers, and he always took care to encourage any young person who was considering furthering their education at Clemson University. He was the first member of Edisto Clemson Club to be honored with the Brass Tiger Award, symbolizing his intense devotion to the University. He was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church for almost 60 years. He was a founding member of his Sunday School class, and over the years, served as president of the class, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Men's Club President, and ushered more often than not. He was also an associate member of his boyhood church, New Hope United Methodist Church of Rowesville. He was active in Kiwanis, Orangeburg County Historical Society, Mid Carolina Gun Club, Sons of the American Revolution, and many other community organizations. Clarence was retired from both International Minerals and Chemicals Corporation and the S.C. Department of Agriculture. Immediately after his Clemson graduation, he served for two years in the U.S. Army. After retirement he enjoyed working with his son-in-law, Jim Craft, at Orangeburg Security Systems. He was a life long dog lover who enjoyed hunting upland birds and deer. He cherished any time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, particularly summer vacations at Edisto Beach and tailgating at Clemson football games. He was a loving husband, and always insisted that meeting Esther was the best luck of his life. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Esther Jordan Higginbotham, their three children: Rose Marie Craft (Jim) of Orangeburg, Carol Elaine Johnson (Tim) of Athens, Georgia, and W.C. "Billy" Higginbotham III (Mary) of Chapin, S.C. Robbie Earl Higginbotham (1937-2017) SC

Robbie Earl Higginbotham, 79, husband of Nellie Scroggs Higginbotham, passed away April 22, 2017.

Born in Iva, he was a son of the late Robert Green and Susie Evalee Johnson Higginbotham. He was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sisters, Mary Horne (Jimmy) of Williamston, Doris Jordan of Griffin, GA; brothers, Bill Higginbotham (Lafon) of Johnson City, TN, and C.L. Higginbotham (Jan) of Roebuck.

He was predeceased by sisters, Helen McAlister, Evelyn Manley; brothers, James Higginbotham, Roy Gene Higginbotham; and twin brother, Bobbie Jerold Higginbotham.

Burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

Nathan Higginbotham, 29, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Anderson surrounded by friends and family. Nathan was born in Anderson and attended Crescent High School. He will forever remain in our hearts. Nathan leaves behind his parents, Paula Higginbotham, Demond "Pops" Roebuck, Tarson "Tot" Bell and Lynn Bell. He also leaves a son, Ma'Kel Higginbotham, and grandmother, Nana Teresa. He is also survived by six sisters, Allison, Tasha, Sequel, Adriana, Lexus, Deanna and honorary sister Candy Majano; three brothers, Brandon, Tim and Bubba; two honorary brothers, Michael Small (Nikki) and Saul Majano; ten aunts, Tammy (Andrew), Shelby (Patrick), Michelle, Connie, Tina, Louise, Annie, Dawn, Rochelle, and Angie; nine uncles, David, John, Roy, Doug, Willie, George, Lamer, Rudolph and Frank; Christopher Higginbotham and a host of other cousins. Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice Faye Higginbotham, Buddy Higginbotham (Charlotte), Willie and Josephine Bell and two cousins, Tiffany Walton and John T. Bell. Lillie Thelma "Lou" Hannah, 72, wife of Tom Hannah, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born in Gholson, MS, she was the daughter of Charlie Brooks and Ernestine Coleman Higginbotham. She was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 53 years, and her parents, are her two sons, Morgan Allen Hannah (Kim) and Jonathan Hannah; a brother, Charlie Higginbotham, Jr; two sisters, Cindy Skipper and Carolyn Jones; and one grandson, Austin Hannah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00pm at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sandra Lee Higginbotham, 74, of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her residence. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, October 28, 2017 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Born January 9, 1943 in Miami, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Essie May Prine Wells. She was a retired Office Manager with Coastal Electric Cooperative and was a member of Grace Advent Christian Church.   Surviving are: her husband, Robert Cameron Higginbotham of Summerville; children, Alysa Marie Travis of Walterboro, Anthony Louis Stefanacci and his wife Kathy of Cape Coral, Florida and Mark Christopher Stefanacci and his wife Shannon of Fort Myers, Florida; and 6 grandchildren, Justine, Michael, Dominick, Daniel, Rae-lee, and Vincent. Paula Kay Higginbotham, 46, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Midway, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017, following a sudden illness. Born February 5, 1971, in Shelbyville, Ind., she was the daughter of Karen McClendon and the late Paul Dillow. In addition to her mother she is survived by her son, Justin Higginbotham and her daughter, Megan Higginbotham; brother, Billy Floyd; sisters, Elizabeth Scanlon, Candy Byrd and Nora Porter; grandchildren, Aaron Chaffin and Landon Higginbotham. Our beautiful and talented Mom passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Jane was born to Lucille and Ernest Higginbotham in Jackson Michigan. Her family later moved to Memphis Tennessee.
She graduated from Gulf Park School for Girls in Gulf Park MS majoring in voice and music.
She met her beloved husband, Merle W Strauch, while she was doing service as a Gray Lady at Kennedy Veterans Hospital, singing for the returning wounded soldiers. Merle was assigned back to the states after flying soldiers from our ports to the hospital. Shortly after he met her, he said "I'm going to marry you" and 6 months later they married. They had an extraordinary life together in Memphis where they raised their 5 children. They built many businesses and traveled the world. One of the most spectacular events in the family life was a 63 day Around the World trip with all 5 children. They later moved to CA in 1969 where Jane continued her acting and singing career and Merle continued his many business ventures. Later they started Patrick's Consignment store in Pacific Grove and Mom continued to operate the store for many years.
Mom was blessed to have wonderful knowledge about health and nutrition that she so willingly shared with her family and others.
They also were very community oriented and contributed in so many ways to include Guide Dogs for the Blind. Also, they commissioned an artist to sculpt the John Steinbeck bust that is significantly displayed on Cannery Row.
They were very active in the theater community. In addition to Mom's many acting and singing roles, they helped produce many plays for the Barnyard Theater and Wharf Theater.
Jane was always seeking to learn and advance her career and was very proud to be accepted into the American Conservatory Theater's summer acting program in San Francisco. Among her letter of recommendations from previous directors, Mom was described as an enormously talented lady. Her theater discipline is professional, her talent is always creative and she is blessed with the great gift of imagination.
Jane had starring roles in Front Street Theatre, Memphis Little Theatre and Memphis Opera Theater and she always sang in the choirs at Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Mayflower Church in Pacific Grove and Carmel Presbyterian Church in Carmel.
Some of her starring soprano roles were: Anna in" The King & I", Mama Rose in "Gypsy", Flora in Verdi's opera, "La Traviata", Mimi in "La Boheme", Prinz Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus", Fiona in "Brigadoon", Irene in "Say, Darling" and the very fun production of B Sharp Follies at Sunset Center in Carmel.
During her rehearsal for "La Traviata", she received a call from Jimmy Stroud of the Memphis Union Mission and he asked her to make a Gospel record album to benefit the Mission and their work with the indigent. The album, "The Time is Now" was produced in 1965 and since then has been enjoyed by so many over the years.
Up to the end of her life she was spreading joy with her beautiful voice and was affectionately known as Joyful Jane. Mom is now singing with the Angels.
Her love and devotion was for her family. Our Mom was predeceased by her husband of 53 incredible years, Merle Strauch, son Scott Strauch of St Petersburg FL and son-in-law, Gene French of Naples FL. She leaves behind her 4 daughters, Valerie Miller (Chuck) of Greenville SC , Carole Strauch Heinrich (Ben) of Carmel Valley CA, Pamela Merle French who recently moved to Greenville, Stacy Ellen Strauch Dubree of Forbestown CA, and former son-in-law, George Duffey, of Pacific Grove, 8 grandchildren Bronson Miller (Melinda) Clint Miller (Barbi) Grant Heinrich, Justin and Brian French, Spencer and Jessica Duffey and Mindy Nelson. Our Mom was affectionately known as GG Jane to her great grandchildren Nathan, Lane, Tyler, Jackson and Cole of Greenville, Ava and Dylan Heinrich of Arlington VA and Ruthie and Molly of Grand Lake, CO.
Our Mom wrote to us on her 80th birthday "The best I could ever have as a mother would be to know that all my family would come to know the Lord, which requires an action step, and be assured that the greatest reunion yet will be in Heaven. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

Anderson, SC. Beuron LaVerne Higginbotham, 87, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Beuron Fay and Ludie Smalley Higginbotham. Mr. Higginbothan served in the United States Air Force and was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and attended Asbury Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church. He was an ordained Deacon. Mr. Higginbotham enjoyed trips to the Pickens Jockey Lot and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Gladys C. Higginbotham; three children, Brenda Garrett and husband, Reg of Memphis, TN, Larry Higginbotham and wife, Kim of Chapin, and Patsy Bradley and husband, Don of Piedmont; five grandchildren, Matthew Garrett and wife, Brittany, Lewra Higginbotham, Paul Higginbotham, Jenny Bradley, and Katie Godfrey and husband, Nich; ten great grandchildren, Will, Charlie, Penny, and Lucy Godfrey, Caitlyn, Cara, Ava, and Evan Garrett, and Blu Belle, Henry "Bud" Bradley-Bota; two brothers, Raymond Higginbotham and wife, Rhonda, and Ronnie Higginbotham; and two sisters, Ruby Martinez and husband, Paul and Jeanette Vermillion and husband, Donald. Margaret Huckaby Higginbotham, 85, formerly of Faulkner Street, Greenwood, widow of Richard Higginbotham, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Wesley Commons.
Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Neville Huckaby and Maybell Huckaby Roark. Margaret retired from Capsugel and was a faithful charter member of South Greenwood Church of God where she enjoyed attending and singing.
Surviving are her children, Joy Hall (Danny) of Ninety Six, Rick Higginbotham (Diane) of Greenwood and Robbie Chafin (Gary) of Laurens; a special niece, Judy Brown; five grandchildren, Eric Parkman, Jody Parkman, Adam Higginbotham, Kara-Grace Lay and Taylor Hall; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Brown and Rev. Kenneth Rabon officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

He served during WWII as a Sergeant stationed in Germany. Reuben was a loving father. He loved fishing, shell collecting and dancing. Norma Higginbotham Miller (1939-2019) SC

Mrs. Norma Higginbotham Miller, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at Laurelwood Cemetery, 143 Laurel Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730. There will be a reception following the service at 12 noon at Essie's, 1509 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Mrs. Miller was born in Greenwood, SC and was the daughter of the late Marshall Quinton and Beatrice Jones Higginbotham. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught Elementary education in the Fort Mill School District. Mrs. Miller enjoyed reading and playing tennis and bridge with friends. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Roddey Miller, III of the home and their daughter, Anne Louise Miller of Kershaw, SC.

Raymond Travis Higginbotham Jr. (1932-2019) GA/SC

Raymond Travis Higginbotham Jr., 86, resident of 123 Edinborough Circle, Apartment 16, husband of Eveline (Palsy) Henderson Langford, died Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Born in Madison, Georgia, September 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Raymond Travis Higginbotham. and Marjorie Rucker Higginbotham. Mr. Higginbotham was a graduate of Richmond Military Academy in Augusta, Georgia and after an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, graduated from Valdosta State University. After completing his degree in Business, he held various city government jobs, including City Manager of Dublin, Georgia. In 1970, he became the City Manager of Greenwood and remained a loyal and conscientious public servant until his retirement.

Most importantly, he was a faithful follower of God, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A member of First Baptist Church, Mr. Higginbotham was a member of the Mauldin Sunday School Class. During his retirement, he enjoyed making beautiful, handcrafted furniture for his family and friends and cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Mary Higginbotham Smith and husband David of Greenville, SC and a son Colonel (Retired) Matthew Travis Higginbotham and wife Shaley of Pendleton, SC, son-in-law George Scott Sugden of Greenwood, and sister-in-law Paula Langford Middlebrooks of Perry, GA. He was predeceased by a daughter Elizabeth Higginbotham Sugden. Also surviving are his eight grandchildren, Travis and Nate Higginbotham, Sarah Smith, Elizabeth, Scott, Mary Cate, Anne, and Rebecca Sugden.

The memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be held.

Honorary guests will be the members of the Mauldin Sunday School Class.

Lucille R. Higginbotham, 93, of Greenville, South Carolina passed away on March 14, 2020. Lucille has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lucille was a long-time member of Hampton Park Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. Her faith in God was everything. Born in Madison, WV Lucille’s heart remained in Charleston, WV and surrounding areas. Lucille is preceded in death by parents Lillian and Raymond Ball, her husband, Everett, two sons, David and Dana, one daughter, Rebecca and one daughter-in-law, Diane; and three brothers, Raymond, Eugene and Lee. Lucille loved her eight grandchildren; Mark, Beth, Jimmy, Samantha, Sherry, Stacey, Michael and Danny; including her 13 great grandchildren, Brandi, David, Katie, John, Anna, William, Anna, Benjamin, Brooklyn, Madison, Cody, Cayli and Lexi; and her two great -great grandchildren, Blake and Maverick. Lucille was proud of finishing her GED and going onto a Junior College when her children were adults with lives of their own, traveling to Jerusalem twice with her Aunt Ethel whom she loved very much; decorating the homes she lived in and helping her children in so many ways. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Madison, WV. Edward Dean Higginbotham, Jr. (1955-2020) SC

Edward “Eddie” Dean Higginbotham, Jr., 64, husband to Annette Howell Higginbotham for 42 years, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2020. Mr. Higginbotham was born in Anderson, SC to Edward Dean Higginbotham, Sr. and the late Sara Irene McConnell Higginbotham. Eddie retired after 40 years from Engineered Products and also was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a former assistant Scout Master for pack #48 and faithful member for over 20 years at Fountain Inn First Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, Annette and father Edward, are two sons, Edward Higginbotham III and Daniel Higginbotham; a daughter, Katrina Thompson and her husband Patrick; two brothers, Rick Higginbotham and his wife Robin and Brad Higginbotham and his wife Roxie; two grandchildren, Mason Lewis and Aurora Thompson. A graveside service will be held 2:30 pm Monday at Greenville Memorial Gardens officiated by Rev. Mike Bearden, Rev. Charlie Howell and Dr. Condy Richardson. Viewing will be from 10-1 pm Monday at Fletcher Funeral Service.

Patricia Ann Higginbotham Bootle (1941-2020) SC

Patricia Ann Bootle (Higginbotham) N. CHARLESTON - Born October 31st, 1941, Patricia was called home to Heaven on August 18th, 2020 with her son at her side. Mrs. Bootle was a lifelong resident and active community member in the Park Circle area of North Charleston, where she was employed for many years as the City of North Charleston Program Director. She had a passion for cooking for her family and was a devoted wife, loving mother, and affectionate Memaw. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and William, and her husband and soulmate of 56 years, Ambrus Franklin Bootle. She is survived by her sister, Julia Hardin of Hanahan, her children, Mark Bootle (Sarah) of Summerville, and Wendy Meyers of Goose Creek, and was a proud Memaw to Amber, Bethany, Isaac, Isabelle, and Canyon. She is also survived by her nephews, Perry, Billy, and Tommy Hardin and their families of Hanahan. Mrs. Bootle will leave an unfillable void in the hearts of all that were privileged to know her. Memorial Services and cremation will be forthcoming through Simplicity of North Charleston.

Lisa Higginbotham Bowman (1966-2021) DE/SC

April 25, 1966 - July 3, 2021 Rock Hill, South Carolina - Ms. Lisa Higginbotham Bowman, 55, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill due to complications from diabetes. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 25, 1966, Lisa was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higginbotham of Rock Hill, SC. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her beloved son, Kenneth Warren Bowman; three sisters, Marilyn (David) Hypes and Kimberly (Tony) Buchanan, both of Fort Mill, and Lora (Jack) Holladay of Rock Hill; one brother, Jeff (Kathleen) Higginbotham of Rock Hill; many special nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and many friends she adopted as family. The family would also like to acknowledge her life-long friend, Ross Bell. Lisa was a natural born caregiver who enjoyed helping others and volunteering in her community. She was once named Fireman of the year for a local Volunteer Fire Department. She enjoyed painting, needlepoint, and taking care of the people she loved. Her greatest love was for her son Kenny who had recently graduated high school with honors. He was the joy of her life. Services for Lisa will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill with the Reverend Reed Wilbanks and Chaplain Paul Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hills Cemetery, Rock Hill. Easley, South Carolina | Age 94

Beatrice Higginbotham Brewer Entrekin, 94, wife of the late Rev. Furman Entrekin, of Easley, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Born in Iva, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Fanny Mae Crocker Higginbotham. She was a member of Easley First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mrs. Entrekin is survived by a son, Rev. James "Mike" M. Brewer, Jr. (Janice) of Maumee, OH; a daughter, Brenda B. Stewart (Jerome) of Liberty; six grandchildren, Johnathan Brewer of Mamee, OH, Joey Price of Easley, Kristy Brewer of Maumee, OH, Melissa Timmerman of Easley, Jason Brewer of Butler, PA, and Kerry Price of Gilbert, SC; ten great-grandchildren, Craig Timmerman, Jacob Brewer, Anthony Timmerman, Kiersten Price, Preston Price, Marleigh Brown, Easton Brewer, Elsie Brewer, Heidi Brewer and Deatrix Brewer; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ava Timmerman and Alexander Brewer.
In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. James Mitchell Brewer, Sr.; three brothers, Leroy, Bobby, and James Higginbotham; and a sister, Bernice West.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at Easley First Pentecostal Holiness Church. A private burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens at a later time.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at the church.

Dorothy Higginbotham Simpson (1933-2022) SC
March 10, 1933 - June 24, 2022

Dorothy H. Simpson, age 89, of Abbeville, SC, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at her residence.
Born March 10, 1933, in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late Doc Higginbotham and Lucy Mae Turner Higginbotham.
Dorothy retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass and attended Asaville Baptist Church. She loved to shop and eat at Chic-Fil-A. She was a hard worker, a great cook, and loved her family dearly. She will be treasured and remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her children, Curtis Dale Simpson (Connie) of Abbeville, SC, and Cheri Smith (Jerry) of Iva, SC; brothers, Jimmy Higginbotham (Nancy) of Anderson, SC, Ed Higginbotham of Iva, SC, and Randy Higginbotham (Susie) of Easley, SC; sisters, Alice Brown (Curtis) of Iva, SC, and Carolyn Cromer of Anderson, SC; sister-in-law, Clara Higginbotham of Ohio; grandsons, Cory Simpson (Amy), Ben Simpson (Ashli), and Heath Smith (Juliana), all of Abbeville, SC; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Simpson, Allie Simpson, Chase Simpson, Brailynne Henderson, and Drayson Simpson, all of Abbeville, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Melvin Higginbotham and Michael Elliott Higginbotham.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 27, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Asaville Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow visitation in the church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dwayne Evans and Rev. Harold Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Asaville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Linda Jean Higginbotham Lineham (1949-2023) MI/SC
Linda Jean Linehan, of Duncan, South Carolina, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 24, 2023. She was 74 years of age.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Lucille Higginbotham, two brothers; Dana and David and her sister, Rebecca McAbee.
Linda is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dan Linehan, as well as her sister, Diana Sinclair, and children Mark Metzger, Beth King, Jimmy Arnold, Daniel Linehan, and her grandchildren; Brandi King, David King, Cayli Linehan and Lexi Linehan, and her great-grandchildren Blake and Maverick King.
Linda retired from Sofa Express in Greenville, SC. She gave much beauty, love, joy, and encouragement to all who knew her. She is loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
A private memorial service will be held among family at a later date.

Rock Hill, SC - Mr. Jackie Keith Higginbotham, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends at Greene's Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, on Tuesday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will be held directly following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Pastor Reed Wilbanks and Army Chaplain Captain Paul Peterson will officiate. Born on March 11, 1932, in Winona and raised on Beury Mountain, West Virginia, Mr. Higginbotham was the son of the late Newton Warren Higginbotham and Rosa (Hinkle) Higginbotham. One of twelve, he is preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters; Arnett, Herbert, Billie, and Houston Ray; and sisters, Mary, Marie, Gladys Carol, Hilma, Margie, and Vermont. He is also preceded in death by his most beloved daughter, Lisa Jo Bowman, grandson Travis Holcomb and son-in-law, John Stuart Holladay. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Ann (Malay) Higginbotham of the home, four children; Marilyn Yvonne Hypes (David) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Kimberly Dawn Buchanan (Tony) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Jeffrey Keith Higginbotham (Kathleen) of Rock Hill, and Lora Ann Holladay (Jack) of Rock Hill, and one sister, Shirley Nolan of Bear, Delaware. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous "Favorite" nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly. His friends became his adopted family, and there were so many including his adopted son, Sal, and his honorary grandchildren, Paul & Sherri Peterson and their six girls. Mr. Higginbotham was a retired coal miner from southern West Virginia. He loved the mountains and enjoyed returning home over the years. It was there he met the love of his life Barbara, and they married in June 1960; recently celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. He was a former member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church in Ansted, West Virginia and Church 180 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The family would like to thank the members of that church for their constant care of Jack these past few years, with special thanks to Pastor Reed Wilbanks. Mr. Higginbotham lived every day to the fullest, a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior. His life demonstrated compassion, generosity, and kindness. "Papa Bud" to all that knew him, was a loving tower of a man who will be remembered with the deepest respect for how he treated his fellow man. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so must you love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
