HARTLINE MAN PASSES ---- Another Pioneer of the Big Bend Country is Summoned by Grim Reaper

The community was saddened Friday morning to learn of the death of William Higginbotham of Hartline, a pioneer of the big Bend country. He was born in Monticello, Wayne Co., Kentucky, Feb, 13, 1848. At the age of 14, he, with his parents, Jas. and Priscilla Cullum Higginbotham, natives of Kentucky, moved to Pleasant Plains near Springfield, Illinois. After a year they moved to Wheeling, Iowa, and from there to Browning, Missouri. The common schools of Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri contributed to his education. At North Salem Mo., on December 2, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Gier, daughter of John and Historian Gier. In 1881, with his wife and three children he crossed the plains with a caravan of covered wagons, driving a team of horses and a span of mules. After a journey of three months they settled in the Grand Round valley, Union Co., Oregon. In 1885 he came to Grant Co., Wash. and took up a homestead six miles north of Hartline. He gave his attention to general farming and livestock raising, and was one of the prosperous and leading men of this section. He retired in 1912 and went to California, but the Big Bend lured him back, and he returned to Hartline, to spend the remainder of his days. He was raised in the Christian faith and later he and his wife became members of the Salvation Army. His beloved wife passed away Sept. 1, 1909. To their union ten children were born. Estes of Oroville, Wm. A, deceased; J. Alva, Hartline; Mrs. Ada B. Steinbaugh, deceased; Mrs. Della M. Schrock, Olympia; Mrs. Hattie A. Rose, Tacoma; Odis A., and Lennie W., Hartline; Maggie J. deceased; and Mrs. Eva B. Winn of Milton, Oregon. He had five brothers and sisters as follows: John C. and George C., deceased; Thomas of Weiser, Idaho; Mrs. Mary Alexander and Mrs. Ellen Darr of Elgin, Oregon. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Monday, February 18th at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Ernest F. Hobbs. Interment was made in the Hartline cemetery. The entire community extends their sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Reuben Higginbotham, 80, pioneer of the west and one of the best known characters of eastern and central Washington, lately a resident of White Bluff, died last night in a Kennewick hospital. His body has been brought to Spokane for burial.

Mr. Higginbotham came to Spokane in 1888, going almost at once to Meyers Falls. He traveled in a buckboard behind a pair of cayuses, taking his family and belongings along. He homesteaded at Meyers Falls and lived there for many years. Later, during the boom days of Republic, he operated the halfway hpuse between Republic and Marcus, and became widely known. He also operated a freighting service between the two towns. During the last few years he had been farming at White Bluff. It is believed that he was ill only a short time before his death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at Hazen & Jaeger's, and interment will be in Riverside Park cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Alice; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Harvey of Meyers Falls, Mrs. Rose Johnson of Salmon, Idaho, Mrs. Mary Jones of White Bluff and Mrs. Dora Nelson of Jupiter Gap, Mont., and three sons, Frank and Bob of Spokane and Sanford of Chewelah.

One of the most fearless officers of the Spokane police department ever died Friday night at Sacred Heart hospital, the victim of a lingering illness from heart and kidney trouble. He was Robert Higginbotham, 50, who would have completed a quarter of a century's service in September. Funeral services will be at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon from Hazen & Jaeger's chapel, the Rev. Dr. Henry A. Van Winkle, Central Christian pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Park.

Born in Bolivar, Mo., January 21, 1885, Officer Higginbotham came to Spokane in 1910, having resided on a Cheney farm before that. Beside his widow, Carrie, at the home, E4324 Buckeye, four sisters, Mrs. Emma Harvey, Meyers Falls; Mrs. Mae Jones, Sunnyside; Mrs. Dona Larsen, Great Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Rosa Johnson, Pomeroy; mother, Mrs. A. L. Higginbotham, Spokane, and two brothers, Frank R. Higginbotham, Spokane, and S. T. Higginbotham, Chewelah, survive him.

Mrs. Alice Higgenbotham, an eastern Washington pioneer who went with her husband by team from Colfax to Kettle Falls 50 years ago, died Sunday at her home, E2414 Rowan.

Coming to the northeast from the east, Mrs. Higginbotham and her husband were unable to get beyond Colfax by train, so they purchased a team and wagon to continue their trip to Kettle Falls. She lived there 15 years and then moved to Cheney. She came to Spokane 15 years ago.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. May Jones, Sunnyside; Mrs. Dona Larsen, Fort Peek, and Mrs. Rose Johnson, College Place, Wash., and one son, Frank, Liberty Lake. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hazen & Jaeger's. The Rev. William M. MacIntosh will officiate.

Mrs. Zerah S. Tice, 42, took her own life last night at her home on Route 1, Rochester, by shooting herself with a 32 caliber automatic revolver. She left a note, it was said, giving ill health as the reason for her act.

Mrs. Tice had been a resident of the Rochester area five years. She is survived by her husband, Fred. H. Tice; daughter, Alma, Rochester; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Higginbotham, Chewelah, and a sister, Mrs. Fred E. Dierking, residing in Portland.

The body was brought to the Newell-Hoerling mortuary here pending funeral arrangements.

Estes E. Higginbotham, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William W. Higginbotham, early pioneers of this region, was born in Linn County, Missouri, October 27, 1876, and passed away August 13, at the (unintelligible)Washington at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 14 days. He had been in failing health for two years and death followed a major operation.
In 1881, when five years of age, he crossed the plains with his parents, one brother and one sister, with a caravan of covered wagons. The family settled in the Grand Round Valley, near Elgin, Oregon, but in 1885 came
on to grant County, Wash. Although only 9 years of age, Estes rode horse back and drove cattle to his parents homestead six miles north of Hartline.
Those were truly pioneer days and Estes knew the hardships of pioneering, for all supplies had to be brought in to the Hartline country by team and wagon from the nearest trading post at Sprague, Wash.
He received his education at the Vorhees school near his father's homestead.
He was united in marriage in 1900 to Miss Lelia Hayden, a teacher in the Hartline school. The young couple homesteaded near Mold, Wash. To this union four children were born, twins dying in infancy. His wife, Lelia , passed away in 1906.
In 1908, Mr. Higginbotham was married to Miss Effie Hayden, cousin of his first wife. They resided near Mold, Wash., and engaged in wheat farming until 1917, then they moved to Brewster and later to Oroville. Three children were born to this union, two daughters and a son.
He was a kind and loving father his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. Although not a member of any church, he was a devout Christian and regularly attended the church services. He was a member of the Pine Creek grange of Riverside, Washington.
He leaves to mourn his loss: one son, William S., of Oroville, Wash., four daughters, Mrs. Jewel Speed of Spokane, Mrs. Golda Perkins of Sunnyside, Wash.; Mrs. Lucille Ludolph of Grand Coulee and Mrs. Gertrude Rader of Olympia. Three brothers, Alva J. of Spokane; Odis A. and Lennie W. of Hartline, three sisters, Mrs. Della Schrock of Olympia, Mrs. Hattie Rose of Tacoma and Mrs. Eva Winn of Milton, Oregon. Thirteen grandchildren also other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral was held from the Hartline Methodist church on Sunday, August 16 at 2:30 p. m. the Reverend Granger of the Community church at Grand Coulee officiating. Interment was in the family plot at the Hartline Cemetery with O. G. Merager funeral director.
All his children were present, also many old friends from the mold country, Brewster, Wenatchee, Grand Coulee and other places.
The relatives who attended the funeral from a distance were; Mr. and Mrs. Royce Rader of Olympia; Mrs. Jewel Speed, Spokane; Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Higginbotham and three children of Oroville; Mrs. Charles Perkins. Sunnyside; Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Ludolph, Grand Coulee; Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hurd, Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Winn, Milton, Oregon; Estes Jones, Vancouver, and Mrs. Mary McCann, Coulee city.

ADAMS, July 28---A former resident of Adams, Nettie E. Higgenbottom of...Vancouver, Wash., died at St. Joseph's hospital there July 3, 1945. She was born at Buena Vista, Ill., May 17, 1877. At the age of ten she with her parents moved to Nebraska. She married Albert J. Higgenbottom and they moved to Canton, Okla. They moved back to Adams, where they lived until five years ago when they moved to Vancouver, Wash. Surviving are her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Edith Rabel of Adams. Mrs. Maude Day, Mrs. Rosa Young and Mrs. Beulah Bacon of Vancouver; two sons, Everett J. and John H. Higgenbottom of Vancouver, and one brother, Myron Hoff, of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services were at Vancouver Funeral Chapel July 5, 1945, Rev. Ivan Canary officiating. Interment was in Park Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Rose Higgenbotham, 67, former Helena resident and sister of Leo Rhein, died of a heart ailment at a Spokane hospital late Thursday night after an illness of one week. Rhein left today for Spokane to attend the funeral services Tuesday.

Mrs. Higgenbotham lived at Wolf Creek and Helena a number of years before moving to Washington 25 years ago. She was a frequent visitor in Helena.

A native of Ohio, where she was born in 1878, Mrs. Higgenbotham is survived by her husband, Alva Higgenbotham of Spokane; a son, Melton Trodick of Great Falls; another brother, Albert Rhein in Great Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Rowe of Great Falls and Mrs. Mary Schroeder of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren and three great-granchildren.

Chewelah, Wash., May 10 - Glen Higginbotham, 39, of Chewelah, who died at Edgecliff sanitarium on Thursday, was buried at Riverside cemetery, Spokane.

He is survived by his widow, Pauline; two small sons, Ray Sam and Roy; his father and mother, Mrs. S. T. Higginbotham; a sister, Mrs. Paul Paulson; all of Chewelah, and a brother, Truman Higginbotham, Northport.

Mr. Higginbotham had been engaged as a farmer in the Cozy Nook district for many years, before being confined to the sanitarium for the last two years and had been employed at United Copper mines and more recently by the Chewelah school districts as a bus driver.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Higginbotham, 69 years old, 4131 California Ave., who died Tuesday, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday in the West Home Chapel.

Mrs. Higginbotham, born in Denver, came to Seattle 40 years ago. She was the widow of P. G. Higginbotham.

Surviving are two sons, Ross Lewis, Seattle, and John Lewis, Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs. Zelma Crittenden, Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Zelda Connell, Seattle, and Mrs. Katherine Green, Denver; a brother, Ross Keef, Buffalo, Wyo.; and two grandchildren.

Port Orchard, Wash., April 20-A shooting affray at a home south of here last night ended with the death of a polio-crippled woman and her estranged husband and the serious wounding of the woman’s father.

Dead are Carol G. Higginbotham, 39, and his wife Doris Mae, 25. Arthur A. Murphy, 59, of 1415 Fairview Ave., Yakima, the woman’s father, was wounded.

He answered a knock at the door of their home about 10 o’clock and saw Higginbotham standing on the steps, a shotgun under his arm. Murphy slammed the door and yelled to his daughter, a polio cripple, to turn out the lights and drop to the floor.

Higginbotham, recently arrested as a parole violator but released several days later, forced his way in. He fired a shot that struck Murphy in the shoulder and Murphy returned fire with a .22 caliber rifle.

Murphy then made his way out the back door and to the home of a neighbor several hundred yards away. They called Wartman.

When the police arrived, they found Mrs. Higginbotham dead in the front yard, a shotgun wound in the abdomen. Higginbotham, most of his head blown away, was lying across the woman’s body.

Wartman said dirt and scratches on the woman’s body indicated her husband had dragged her out and into the yard where he shot her, then turned the gun on himself.

Dona B. Larsen, 56, of Route 2, wife of Jack Larsen, died Thursday morning at a local hospital. She was born June 22, 1896, at Kettle Falls, Wash., and attended Cheney High School and Cheney Normal following which she worked for the Northern Pacific Railway in Spokane for 10 years.

She moved to Great Falls, Mont., where she lived for 35 years and came to Walla Walla to make her home three years ago. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Great Falls.

Survivors include her husband, two brothers, Frank Higginbotham of College Place and S. T. Higginbotham of Chewelah, and two sisters, Mrs. Ira (Mae) Jones of Burbank and Mrs. Berkley Johnson of College Place.

Mrs. Rosa Elizabeth Johnson, 59, of College Place, died at a local hospital Thursday following a severe illness of short duration.

She was born September 11, 1892 at Kettle Falls, Wash., and attended high school and normal school at Cheney. She did graduate work at Washington State College and came to the Walla Walla Valley 16 years ago from Long Beach, Wash.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Club of Little Gardens and a past member of the Federated Women’s Club.

Survivors include a son, Berkley Johnson of Walla Walla; two brothers, Frank Higginbotham of Walla Walla and S. T. Higginbotham of Chewelah, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Ira (May) Jones of Burbank, Wash. Also surviving are two grandchildren.

Chewelah, Wash., July 26 - Samuel (sic) T. Higginbotham, 82, died at his home here today.

Funeral services will be held here Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Bryan chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Park cemetery.

Surviving is his widow, Dosia, at the home; two daughters, Mrs. Claude Schwamb, Hailey, Idaho, and Mrs. Bessie Paulson, Chewelah; one son, T. S. Higginbotham, Colville; one sister, Mrs. Mae Jones and one brother, Frank Higginbotham, both of Walla Walla.

Tenino - A resident of Tenino for the past 23 years, Mrs. Charles (Amy) Doormann, 81, died Wednesday afternoon at her home here.

Mrs. Doormann was born Oct. 11, 1879, at Paterson, N.J. She lived in Elma before moving to Tenino.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Thompson, Midland Park, N.J., and Mrs. E.T. Cellarius and Mrs. Art Sarlous, Tenino; two sons, Arnold Greenway, Allendale, N.J., and Lester GReenway, Pasadena, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Guiborn, Calif., Mrs. Edith Totten, Pasadena, Mrs. Mary Worden; Tacoma, and Mrs. Anna Patten, San Jacinto, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Newell-Hoerling's, Centralia, with the Rev. W.L. Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Forest Grove.

Mrs. Beulah Hickenbottom, former Custer county resident, died Saturday in an Ellensburg, Wash., hospital after a lingering illness.

Survivors include eight children, Lawrence of Lemon Grove, Cal., Mary Shepherd and Leonard of Ansley, William of Sterling, Colo., Mrs. Lessie Priest and Mrs. Keith Johnson of Ellensburg, and Cecil and Don of Pasco, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Emmett Smith and Mrs. B.E. Griffith of Broken Bow, and Mrs. Ina Mitchell of Maple City, Wash.; and two brothers, Adrah Hatfield of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Loren Hatfield of Broken Bow.

Newport, Wash. - Mrs. Goldie May Higginbotham, wife of Pend Oreille County Commissioner John D. Higginbotham, died yesterday at Mt. Linton Hospital in Metaline Falls.

Her home was in Ione where she had lived for the past 21 years. Besides her husband she is survived by three sons, Lawrence and David of Seattle and Walter of Renton; two daughters, Mrs. George Carey of Renton, Mrs. William MacArthur of Ione; a sister, Mrs. Clara Rasmussen of Evans, Wash., 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. from the Ione Congregational Church with burial at Ione Cemetery. The body is at the Sherman Funeral Home in Newport.

Funeral service for Mrs. Effie Higginbotham, 79, was held at the Barnes Funeral Home in Oroville, December 5, 1962, with the Rev. Clyde Bachman officiating. Interment was in the Riverview cemetery. Mrs. Higginbotham was born April 4, 1883 in Audrain County, Missouri. She was married to Estes E. Higginbotham at Waterville on June 23, 1908. The couple resided at Mold, Washington for a few years and then moved to Oroville in 1925 where Mrs. Higginbotham spent most of her remaining years. She had been in ill health for the past three years and passed away Sunday, December 2 in Tonasket. Her husband preceded her in death in 1942. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Robert Ludolph, Grand Coulee; Mrs. Royce Rader, Omak; Mrs. Wm. Roberts, Conconully and Mrs. Golda Perkins, Portland, Oregon. One son, Wm. Higginbotham of Oroville; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frank Marr, Wenatchee; two brothers, Dave and Frank Hayden of Tonasket, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Dorothy J. Higginbotham was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 1967 at Barnes Funeral Chapel in Oroville. Interment was in the Riverview cemetery. The Rev. David Edel officiated. Pallbearers included Edward Lehrman, Bob Burns, John Minyard, Al Jackson, Cyril Carper and Bill Petry. Honorary pall bearers were: Gil Turner, Sidney Mitchell, Wilfred Noel, Chub Williams, Art Lehrman and Tug Hudlow. Dorothy J. Higginbotham was born July 7, 1914 at Mullan, Idaho. She came to Okanogan county at the age of 10 years with her family and settled in Oroville where she has continued to live. She was married to W.S. Higginbotham on March 10, 1931 at Okanogan, Washington. She passed away at St. Martin's hospital in Tonasket on Saturday, January 7 following a very short illness. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Oroville. Survivors include her husband, Bill; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Kammers, Spokane, Washington; two sons, Willard E., Ogden, Utah, and Donald J., Oroville; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Erickson, Bellingham, Washington, Mrs. Norma Gagerit, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Ruth Carvalhe, Oakland, California; one brother, Charles W. Rush A. Higginbotham of Route 1, Touchet, died at his home Tuesday morning at age 73 after a short illness.

Higginbotham was born in Hamburg, Ark., on Oct. 5, 1893. He and Lois M. Hardy were married in Hamburg on Feb. 2, 1919, and they moved to Missouri two years later. In 1924, the family traveled west and settled in Hedges, Wash.

Higginbotham was section foreman for the OWR & N railway and Union Pacific for 35 years before retirement in 1958. The family moved to Walla Walla at that time and Higginbotham worked at the Peoples Market with his son. He retired from that job and moved to Gardena in 1966.

The Higginbotham's celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Feb. 2. Higginbotham had recently been busy remodeling their home, gardening, fishing and traveling

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois M. Higginbotham at the home; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (June) Slater and Mrs. Elmer (Grace) Bald, both of Touchet; two sons, Rush W. Higginbotham and Harral C. Higginbotham, both of Walla Walla; his mother, Mrs. Ella Rose Higginbotham of Hamburg, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Patterson of Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Willie Lee Etheredge of Hamburg, Ark.; two brothers, Leroy Higginbotham of Hamburg, Ark., and Garvin Higginbotham of Eureka, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Higginbotham was a member of Touchet Community Congregational Church; Walla Walla Lodge No. 7, F & AM; Alki Chapter No. 25, Eastern Star Touchet Grange No. 251, and the Union Pacific Old Timers Club.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Marshall-Herring Chapel with Chaplain Lawrence Cousins officiating. Ritualistic services will be by Walla Walla Lodge No 7, F & AM. Interment will be in the Touchet Cemetery.

Milton-Freewater - Mrs. Eva Winn Goodwin, 72, of 633 Evans, died Friday in a Walla Walla hospital after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Goodwin was born Sept. 23, 1897, in Hartline, Wash., and moved to Milton-Freewater in 1916. She had been employed by the post office until her marriage to Jesse W. Winn in 1919. The operated a farm on Couse Creek until his death Jan. 3, 1958. Mrs. Goodwin moved to her present address in 1962 and married Dee Roy Goodwin Feb. 10, 1967.

Mrs. Goodwin had been very active in club work. She was a member of the State Line Grange, the Coop Co-op Club, both of Milton-Freewater and the Golden Age Club of Walla Walla.

Besides her husband, Dee Roy Goodwin, at the home, Mrs. Goodwin is survived by a step-son, Willis Goodwin of Walla Walla; and two brothers, Odis Higginbotham of Hartline, Wash., and L. W. Higginbotham of Maple Valley, Wash. Two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Munselle-Rhodes chapel with the Rev. Delbert McAmis of the United Church of Christ officiating. Vault interment will follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Higginbotham, Zella A. - Entered into rest Feb. 3 in a local hospital. Her home 423 Elm Road. Survived by a daughter, Myrle Higginbotham, Spokane. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Riplinger Funeral Home, N4305 Division St.

Cecil J. Hickenbottom, formerly of Mesa, died Sunday at Fort MacLeod, Alberta, Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Flora; sons, Leroy and Aaron; daughter, Vonda Leyritz, Seattle.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Buren Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in Seattle.

Seattle, Wash.-Carl Higginbotham, 71, former Ogden resident, died here Thursday.
He was born Sept. 22, 1904 in Ogden, a son of Lester and Laura Jacobson Higginbotham.
He lived in Ogden until moving to Hollywood, Calif., about 20 years ago.
He was employed in Ogden by the Model Laundry. In California, he was employed as an aerospace Technician for the North American Aviation Co., until retiring two years ago.
Survivors include three sisters, Edna Ward of Seattle; Mrs. Robert (Florence) Schatz of Modesto, Calif.; and Helen Hilton of Sturgis, Mich.
Funeral services will be held in Seattle. Friends may call at Larkin and Sons Mortuary in Ogden Tuesday from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial in the Ogden City Cemetery.

COLLEGE PLACE - Clara L. Hicinbothom, 92, 1112 Cotter Place, died Tuesday at Blue Mountain Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be in Estacada, Ore., with arrangements in the care of the Clayville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hicinbothom was born Jan. 30, 1884, in Canon City, Colo., the daughter of James and Magdalina Sevier. Her husband, Charles Hicinbothom, died in December 1953. Three years later she came to College Place from Estacada. In her early years, she carried the mail on horseback near Oregon City.

She was a charter member of the Estacada Seventh-day Adventist Church and leader of the church's Dorcas Society for many years.

She is survived by her son, Leslie Hicinbothom, College Place, and her daughter, Alice Kitching, Estacada; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

College Place-Brenda Rae Hicinbothom, 1112 Cotter Place, died of cancer Sunday at Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 31.

The funeral will be at the Colonial-DeWitt Funeral Home in Walla Walla at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Elder William Bornstein of the College Place Seventh-Day Adventist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions through Colonial-DeWitt Funeral home to the International Association of Cancer Victims and Friends.

Miss Hicinbothom was born Aug. 12, 1945, in Walla Walla, the daughter of Leslie H. and Verna G. Hicinbothom. She graduated from Walla Walla Valley Academy in 1964 and received her licensed practical nurse degree in 1967 from the Walla Walla Vocational School. She was a licensed practical nurse at Smith Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Linnies W. Higginbotham, 26203 217th Ave. SE, Maple Valley, will be Monday, 1 p.m. at Stokes Mortuary Chapel, Renton.
Mr. Higginbotham was dead on arrival at Valley General Hospital early Friday morning. He was 84.
Born Oct. 3, 1892, at Hartline, northeast Grant county. He was a farmer in eastern Washington until he moved to Maple Valley in 1943.
He worked as a bulldozer operator with the Seattle Water Department until his retirement in 1960. He was past master if the Grand Coulee Dam Lodge 120, F. and A.M., of which he had been a member for 63 years. He was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and belonged to the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club and the International Union of Operating Engineers, local 302C.
He is survived by his widow, Stella; a son, Howard L. Higginbotham, Renton; daughters Jean Wheeler, Kent, and Marjorie Barnes, Maple Valley; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park, Renton. The family asked remembrances be made to the Maple Valley Fire Department aid unit.

B. Maude Day, a homemaker and Vancouver resident the past 44 years, died in Portland Tuesday. She was 82.

Survivors include two sisters, Beulah Bacon of Vancouver and Rose Young of Chester, Calif.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Coulter officiating.

Onel B. Higginbotham, 57, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Cicero, died Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Veterans Hospital in Tacoma. He was born Feb. 12, 1930, in London, Ky., the son of John C. and Nannie Mae Higginbotham, who do not survive.

He served 25 years in the U.S. Army and was retired in 1972 after being wounded in Vietnam. He was employed by the Tacoma School Systems.

Survivors include his wife, Angie; five sons, Ronald, Tacoma, Curtis and Jessie, Vancouver, Wash., Danny, Union City, Calif., and Raymond, Spanaway, Wash.; two daughters, Doris Johnson, Tacoma, and Lita Whitehouse, Kapowsin, Wash.; four sisters, Oda Reid, Ola Hatfield, Ethel Marcum and Ida Tishner, all of Cicero; two half-sisters, Tresie Gibson and Elsie Baker, both of Winter Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Oner Higginbotham, Noblesville, and John C. Higginbotham, Cicero; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Odas, and half-brothers, Lee, Palestine, William, Frank, Albert and Charlie; and half-sister, Annie.

Military services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma, Wash.

Cashmere - Lucille Ludolph, 82, of Cashmere and a former Grand Coulee resident, died Monday, Nov. 11, 1991, at the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She was born Aug 19, 1909 in Wenatchee to Estes and Effie May (Hayden) Higginbotham. She graduated Oroville High School in 1928, then attended Northwest Business College in Seattle for two years. She married Robert Ludolph in Wenatchee Aug. 22, 1932. They moved to Grand Coulee in 1935. She was active in civic affairs, including development of the city park in Grand Coulee. She was a charter member of the Women's Business Club, the Lady Lions and the Grant County Historical Society. She was a member of the Grande Coulee Library Board and the United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Smith of Kent and Nancy Valeson of Cashmere; a brother, William Higginbotham of Omak; a sister, Gert Rader of Oroville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, and two sisters. Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements.

A homemaker who lived in Vancouver since 1938, Beulah G. Bacon, died in a local care center Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995. She was 78.

A member of the First Christian Church's "Disciples of Christ," she enjoyed ceramics and fishing. Mrs. Bacon was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Taloga, Okla.

She is survived by her husband, Darrel, at home; one son, Leland of Vancouver; one half-brother, Roger Rabel of Lincoln, Neb.; one half sister, Verda Baehr of Lincoln, Neb.; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; and one step-great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be begin at 1 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, followed by private burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Vancouver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Stella E. Higginbotham of Renton died Nov. 19, 1995, at Highlands Care Center in Renton. She was 98. Mrs. Higginbotham was born on Aug. 28, 1897 in Columbus, Ohio. She and her family were among the first passengers on the newly completed transcontinental railroad in 1900 when they moved to Deer Park near Spokane, so her father could become sheriff. She graduated from Cheney Normal School (now eastern Washington University) in 1917. She married Linnies "Lennie" Higginbotham on July 6, 1918, in Waterville, and they farmed wheat in the area until the Great Depression. Lennie then worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam, and Stella briefly returned to teaching. The family moved to Lake Lucerne in Maple Valley in 1944. She was a charter member of the Lake Wilderness Golf Club, a member of the Maple Trails Garden Club, the Chinook District of Garden Clubs, various state and national garden clubs, the South King County Arboretum Foundation, the Prairie Chapter No. 131 of the Eastern Star and Desiree Club. She enjoyed gardening, golf, writing poetry, ceramics, macramé and various forms of needlework. She delighted in the company of her many friends and extended family, maintained a youthful outlook on life, and amazed all who knew her with her recitation of poetry and the writings of William Shakespeare. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, and by her daughter, Jean, in 1985. Survivors include a son, Howard Higginbotham of Renton, a daughter, Marjorie Barnes of Maple Valley; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton. Memorials may be made to the South King County Arboretum.

Gertrude May Higginbotham Rader (1913-1997) WA
Gertrude May Rader was born to Effie and Estes Higginbotham on a family farm near Mold on May 16, 1913. She passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, in Wenatchee, following a brief illness.
She was reared on farms at Brewster Flat and near Oroville, where she graduated from high school in 1930.
She married Royce Rader on March 18, 1934. Over the years, they made their home in various locations, including Olympia, Spokane, Chelan and Moses Lake. For many years, they resided in Omak, where Gert was involved in retail sales. They returned to Oroville for their retirement years.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1988.
Gert was always willing to share time with others and developed a great number of close relationships over the years. She was especially proud of her gardening skills and was pleased to share the bounty of God's gifts through the beauty of flowers.
Her activities included Orthopedic Guild and the Sweet Adelines. She was a longtime member of Order of the Eastern Star and was a supporter of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her brother, Bill Higginbotham of Omak; her sons and their wives, Kerm and Sue, Omak, and Larry and Evelyn, Richland; six grandchildren, Cami of Wenatchee, Shawn of Cheney, Ryan and Marcie of Federal Way and Jeff and Heather of Richland; and her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Nicholas, McKenna and Kirby.

Wayne M. Higinbotham, 86, of Sunnyside, Wash., formerly of Central Point and Gold Hill, died March 28, 2002, at Heritage Grove Nursing Home in Yakima, Wash. The graveside service was held March 30 at Outlook Cemetery in Outlook, Wash. He was born July 25, 1915, in Phoenix (OR), and was educated in Phoenix and Gold Hill. He lived in the Rogue Valley until 1965. In 1965, Mr. Higinbotham moved to Sunnyside, where he worked for Western Farmer Dairy Sales and Service, retiring in the late 1970s. He enjoyed watching his children compete in horse shows, spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and his dog, Jazz. Zella Ilean Cox Higginbotham Merrill Hiebert (1910 - 2003) AR/WA

A memorial service for former Willamina resident Zella Ilean Higginbotham of Wenatchee, Wash., will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene, Leavenworth, Wash.
Mrs. Higginbotham died May 21, 2003, in Highline Convalescent Center, Wenatchee. She was 93.
She was born March 21, 1910, the daughter of James Mayer and Verlinda Galloway Cox. She attended Mountain Home High School, Mountain Home, Ark.
She and Everett Higginbotham were married June 17, 1929, in Culp, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1964.
She then worked as a cook for a sorority at Oregon State University, Corvallis. She later was a housemother for Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity chapters at OSU and in Utah, California, and Washington for 10 years.
She lived in the Willamina-Grand Ronde area for 12 years.
She and Ernest Merrill were married Nov. 3, 1979, in Peshastin, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She and Henry Hiebert were married Sept. 23, 1984, Newport, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Higginbotham was an avid reader. She loved cooking for others. A life-long member of the Mennonite church, she had taught Bible classes throughout her life. Her family said she loved her Lord and that she knew no stranger, welcoming all who came to her.
Survivors include four sons, Leon Higginbotham of Salem, Owen Higginbotham of Peshastin, and Dan Higginbotham and Paul Higginbotham, both of Cashmere, Wash.; three daughters, Carol Howard of Salem, Doris Weyer of Seattle and Muriel Krehbiel of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Elbert Cox of Marlow, Okla.; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Verlee Miltonberger, in 1979; two grandsons, Bill Higginbotham in 1975 and Michael Higginbotham; a granddaughter, Danell Higginbotham in 1995; and two brothers, Eros Cox and "J.L." Cox.

William "Bill" Stanley Higginbotham, long time Okanogan County resident, died on August 9, 2003 at Omak, dimming forever that special twinkle in his eye. He was 92. He was born on June 8, 1911 at the family homestead near the old Mold town site in Douglas County, WA. He attended Oroville High School. In 1930 he married Dorothy J. Fite in Oroville and they were parents of three children. She preceded him in death in 1967. After many years of love and companionship, Bill married his best friend, helpmate and favorite dance partner, Doris Wester, on July 8, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Doris at home in Omak; son, Willard of Portland, Oregon; seven grandchildren and their families, plus numerous nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Melvin, Marvin, Martin, Marcus and Louella Wester, Lorraine Utt and Loretta Hairr. Mrs. Higginbotham was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Chehalis, Wash., to William and Emma Johnson Crossler. She graduated in 1941 from Dayton High School.
In 1941 she married Layton Royse. They had son Skip and daughter Patty. They divorced.
In 1947 she married Robert Breiner and had son Michael.
Mr. Breiner died in 1976. She owned and operated Park Street Beauty Salon in her home from 1960-1966. She owned and operated the Curly Q salon from the early 1970s.
She retired in 1989.
In 1987 she married Rush Higginbotham. An avid golfer, she played on a women's league and won a few tournaments. She was a member of Lady Elks 287, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans Memorial Golf Course.
She loved her roles as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, at home; three daughters, Patti Hapner of Walla Walla, Gina Moran of Spokane and Patty Moore of Yuma, Ariz.; three sons, David ``Skip'' Royse and Michael Breiner, both of Walla Walla and Tom Higginbotham of Seattle; sister Eunice Daniels of Clarkston, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Born June 29, 1918 in Seattle, WA, Harriet lived a majority of her life in the Bothell / Woodinville area. Warrick, Lynn . (Higginbotham) - Lynn was born to John Calvin and June Brown Higginbotham on June 4, 1954 in Spokane, WA and passed away suddenly on January 6, 2006 at the family home in Spokane. As a child she was raised on the family farm at Hartline, WA and attended the Hartline Public Schools. Following graduation from Hartline High School in 1972, Lynn enrolled at Washington State University, graduated from the Spokane campus of WSU in 1977 with a BS degree in nursing. Tom Warrick married Lynn on June 23, 1984, and they made Spokane their home for the next 21 years. They were loving parents to their two children, Matt and Jackie. One of Lynn's special joys was playing the piano, and she encouraged her children in their musical endeavors. She was also especially fond of water skiing, and boating with her family on Lake Pend Oreille. During her college years, Lynn certified as a Water Safety Instructor and spent summers as a lifeguard and giving swimming lessons. Lynn was a wonderful mom, wife, sister and daughter, devoted to her family, her many friends, and all pets. She was a nurse at Sacred Heart for 25 years where her care and respect for all her patients were legendary; Lynn's most enduring legacy is her generous, thoughtful, unselfish, fun loving and cheerful nature. Organizations honored o have Lynn in their membership include St. Peter's Parish, the Washington State Nursing Association, and the Spokane Club. In addition, she was a past member of the Spokane Country Club. Lynn is survived by her loving husband Tom, son, Matt, and daughter, Jackie. Other survivors are her mother, June Higginbotham, brother Alan and Pam Higginbotham, older sister Joyce and Richard Finster, and younger sister Denise and Bob Hale. Addition survivors are the extended Warrick Clan, including mother-in-law, Dorothy Warrick, Steve Carroll, Karen and Bob Muzzy, Jenny and Mike Wisecarver, Nick and Karen Warrick, Terry Warrick, Jim and Kathy Warrick, Candy and Jeff Slotnick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Passed away January 10, 2008. Hugh was a collector: besides interesting stories and items, he gathered a loving family, great friends and the tremendous admiration and appreciation of his humor, generosity and warm embrace of life from everyone he met. He served 20 years in the Air Force and was an excellent fighter pilot, flying interceptor missions from locations around the world. He test flew the F-102 (the first single engine jet) for its first flight across the Pacific Ocean. Following his career in the Air Force, Hugh worked as a safety education instructor for the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries until retiring in 1994. He was born in San Jose, CA September 17, 1929 and is survived by his wife of 52 years, June; his son John; daughter Susan; son Paul, and grandchildren Marie and Hugh. David Samuel Higgenbottom passed away on Friday the 25th of January, 2008.
He is survived by his mother, Irene; five siblings, John, Teresa, Marlena, Dennis and Daniel. He also is survived by his daughters, Wendi, Stacy and Kathryn; and had eleven grandchildren.
Our beloved son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather will be dearly missed. His gentle spirit and warm personality touched many lives.
David worked and lived all his life in the Northwest and was a member of Local Union 440 for years.
Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service, only a gathering of his family to remember him.

He was discharged from the Army in 1971 at Fort Lewis and decided to stay in Seattle to experience life on the other coast. He met Sherrill in 1972, and that same year he went to work at the King County Jail in food service. After a short time he became the Food Service Supervisor, planning menus and ordering food for more than 1500 inmates and staff. In 1991 he and Sherrill decided to buy E. B. Foote Winery in south Seattle. They had never made wine before, but they learned together. They were making award-winning wine by their second vintage. In 2001 he retired from King County to become a full-time “wineaux.” The winery was growing and he was passionate about winemaking, striving to make the best possible wines. In 2003 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. He and Sherrill worked together to keep the winery going. As Rich became less able to do “wine work,” Sherrill gradually took over more and more responsibilities. Even when he was unable to help at all, he still enjoyed being at the winery and listening to Sherrill speak to groups about the winery’s beginning. In May 2008 he needed more help than Sherrill could provide, and he went to live in an adult family home until his passing.

Darlene "June" HIGINBOTHAM Born on July 17, 1930 and departed on December 2, 2008. All of us who will deeply miss her know she was a remarkable person with surprising spunk and resilience. Petite as she was, she always took on any challenge with courage, humor and determination. She radiated an openness and sense of fun that drew people from around the world to be her friends. She loved to travel, loved to shop, loved music and singing-- and bridge-- and was a terrific dancer. Darlene C. June was born in Sparta, Wisconsin and received her nursing degree from Gonzaga University. In Spokane, she met her husband of 52 years, Hugh Higinbotham, an Air Force fighter pilot originally from California, who passed away on January 10, 2008. They married on October 20, 1955, and began a life of travel, courtesy of the US Air Force, but they considered Spokane their adopted hometown. June retired in December 1994 after dedicating 20 years as a psychiatric nurse at Eastern State Hospital where she rose to become the extremely-respected RN supervisor of the Legal Offender Unit. Following Hugh's death, June moved to Issaquah, to be near her three children and two grandchildren who all live in the Seattle area and miss her terribly. A memorial event will be held in Spokane in the spring. A memorial service in Seattle is set for Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at Evergreen-Washelli Chapel, (206) 362-5200.

YAKIMA - Virginia Mae Green-Higginbotham, 75, of Yakima, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 21, 2009. Virginia was born September 23, 1933 in Yellville, Arkansas to Talmadge and Eunice Underwood. As a girl, she spent a lot of time reading and singing, and sang with her sister on KIT Radio. Virginia married Dale Green on August 25, 1952, in Yakima. They had a family of four children and spent a lot of time doing family activities such as going to baseball and football games, choir concerts, and even being a part of the Cub Scout program for several years. As a family, they spent a lot of time singing together. Virginia worked as a Para-Pro for 24 years at Garfield Elementary School and received the P.T.A. Golden Acorn Award for her devotion. She helped many children excel that may not have done so otherwise. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Virginia was very devoted to her church callings. Working as a chorister for Sacrament, Primary and Relief Society and worked in the extractions program which is part of the genealogy program. She spent a lot of time doing her own family genealogy. After her children were grown, she joined the Bel Canto Choral Society and continued her singing. She even got to go to Australia with the group, which was a major highlight in her life. After her husband Dale Green passed away, she met William Higginbotham while playing pool. The couple were married July 13, 1996. They had just recently moved to Orchard Park and had lived a very active life. Illness kept Virginia from doing a lot of things she wanted to do. But she never lost her faith and goal of Eternal Life. Virginia is survived by her husband, William Higginbotham; her mother Eunice Underwood; two sons, Robert Green and wife Nancy, Phil Green and wife Mary Ann; two daughters, Robin Easter, all of Yakima, and Tina Duvall and husband Dan of Tollgate, Oregon; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; a sister, Ann Hathaway of Yakima and a brother, Talmadge Underwood and wife Audrey of St. George, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Green and her father Talmadge Underwood. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (today) and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, and before the funeral service at the Church. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Fifth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1414 South 72nd Avenue, Yakima. Eleanor was born in Hartline, Washington on June 4, 1917 and passed away peacefully on June 29, 2009, at the age of 92, in Lynnwood Washington. She was born the fifth child of seven, to Thomas and Clara Higginbotham. She met her husband Frank W. Clark in Ephrata, Washington during WW II. They married in Seattle in 1945 and raised their two children, Dennis and Diane. Eleanor was a stay at home mom. She was a Girl Scout leader, active in the PTA, and involved in her children's activities. Eleanor loved sports of all kinds. She played basketball for her high school team. She also bowled for many years in women's leagues at Rainier, Skylane, and Roxbury Lanes. She avidly followed her favorite Seattle sports teams, the Mariners, the Sonics, and the Huskies. She listened to all of the games on the radio and when televised she watched. She was fond of gardening and cooking. There were always fresh flowers from her yard displayed in her home. She enjoyed making delicious casseroles for her family and later on for her two grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her daughter Diane, and her grandson Jeffrey. In addition she was preceded in death by her parents and five of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Mary "Babe" Webb (Ben), her son Dennis Clark (Patty) and her granddaughter Michelle Few (Darron) and many nieces and nephews. Eleanor will be truly missed by all of us who loved her. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Aegis of Lynnwood, Sunrise of Lynnwood, and Manor Villa, for providing care and assistance in the twilight of Eleanor's life. A special thanks to the team of professionals and volunteers at Providence Hospice of Snohomish County for the support and care they provided. Elaine (Schoeneman) Higginbotham, known as “Dolly” to friends and family, was born February 24, 1922 in Pasco, Washington. She was the youngest of five children born to Clarence and Rena Schoeneman. Dolly moved to Port Angeles, WA in her early 20’s, where she began a career in the service industry, working variously as a waitress, hairstylist, bartender and bar owner. In 1948, Dolly married Virgil Phillips. Their son Robert was born in Seattle in 1958, and was followed by daughter Terri in California in 1960. Dolly lived in Bellevue, WA until her second marriage to Irving Higginbotham, in 1982, when they moved to Kirkland WA. Dolly passed away on July 4, 2009 due to complications following open heart surgery. She is survived by first husband Virgil Phillips of Camano Island, son Bob (Lisa) Phillips of Woodinville and daughter Terri Phillips of Kirkland; as well as six beloved grandchildren, Lexi and Cody Phillips; Deanna, R.J. and Alyssa Rusch; and Lindsey (Chris) Schreck. She is also survived by her sister, Eunice. She was preceded in death by her parents, her other siblings and in 2005, by her husband Irving. Dolly was a world-class storyteller and had an infectious laugh. She made friends wherever she went with her passionate, sometimes feisty, take on life. Dolly will be remembered for her love of gardening, playing cards (just ask Vicki), her chicken-fried steak, her bottomless generosity and her fierce loyalty to friends and family. She looked forward to her annual trip to Alaska to see her nephew Gary and his family, and to her nightly glass of bourbon and water, along with the Channel 7 news. Dolly was active and engaged in her life right up to the time of her passing, including her top priority, the many activities of her children and grandchildren. Dolly will be sorely missed, but never, ever forgotten. Her memory will live on in the minds of the all those fortunate enough to have had her unique presence grace their lives. A special thanks to our friend James Whitfield who was with us at the hospital and on call the entire time. She called him her “body guard”. Our family is so grateful to James and his family. Peter passed away peacefully on October 7, 2009 with family and friends by his side. Peter was born in Bellingham, WA to Leslie and Mary Higginbottom on September 5, 1948. He moved with his parents and two brothers to the Wallingford district in Seattle in 1956. He attended Inter lake Elementary, Hamilton Junior High, and graduated from Lincoln High in 1966. He attended Seattle Pacific University for two years and graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1972. Peter worked at Puget Sound Engineering and Cloudy and Britton designing refrigeration units for fishing boats and food storage facilities for years. Peter was an active artist and photographer who especially enjoyed nature, landscape, and flower photography. He leaves behind many friends from Wallingford House, University Presbyterian Church Groups, and Elim Baptist Church. Survivors include his brothers David (Teri), Daniel, and nephew John. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. SEATTLE - Donna Kaye (Higginbotham) Eckman, 43, of Covington, WA, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the University of Washington Medical Center due to serious medical conditions. Donna was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana, June 16, 1966, to Herman and Martha Higginbotham. She received a business Degree in 1986 from Yakima Valley Community College. She especially enjoyed being with her family, camping, riding quads, and hanging out with her favorite dog Buddy. She was a very patient and kind-hearted person. All who knew and loved Donna, will truly miss her. She is lovingly survived by her husband Don, a son Cody and a daughter Randa, her mother Martha, two brothers; Danny and Dewayne, nephew Kevin, and nieces Kayla, Heather, Peyton, and Mallory; and her brother in-law Dale. Barbara J. Clark, 61, of Vancouver WA, passed away November 1st, shortly after being diagnosed with acute leukemia. Barbara was born to Charles and Gertrude Higginbotham in Olympia, WA. After graduating from Canby High School, she enjoyed traveling through the United States before returning to the Pacific Northwest and beginning a career with the United States Postal Service that spanned more than 35 years. Barbara managed the USPS East Vancouver DCU, the largest delivery unit in the district. Barbara had a great love for animals, particularly senior dogs in need of rescue, collecting old books and reading, gardening, and spending time with her family each year at the Oregon Coast. She had a keen interest in people, travel and the world in general. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sydney Clark; and son, Kevin Clark; siblings, Richard (Vickie) Higginbotham, Carole King, Dennis Higginbotham, Susan (Daniel) Montana; nephews, Brad (Jennifer) and Brian (Andrea) Higginbotham; nieces, Madeline and Gabrielle Montana; and great-nephew and niece, Max and Haley Higginbotham. Avis Rayfield Higginbotham (1934-2010) TN/WA

Avis (Rayfield) Higginbotham, born to Oliver and Lona (Barnes) Rayfield at home in Sevier County, TN on February 26, 1934, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Cashmere Convalescent Center in Cashmere. Avis attended Shady Grove School in Birds Creek, TN and later worked at several places in Gatlinburg, including the M and O Tea Room and also as a Nanny. In 1951, she moved with her family to Leavenworth, where she worked at the River Terrace Cafe;. In 1952, she met the love of her life, Owen and in 1953, moved with her family to Peshastin, where she managed the Peshastin Cafe; until she and Owen were married on August 14, 1953, at Coeur d'Alene, ID. After their marriage, they moved to Leavenworth, where their daughter, Ellen, was born. In 1954, they moved to Oregon, where their two sons, Billy and Dale, were born and, in 1956, they moved back to Leavenworth. In 1965, they moved to Entiat and in 1968, moved to Peshastin, where they have lived the last 42 years. The last eight and a half years, Avis lived at the Cashmere Convalescent Center, where she was given exceptionally loving care. Avis loved to cook and bake. She was a great cook and you had to be quick at family potlucks to get any of her dishes. She also loved to travel and was ready to go within a moment's notice. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and fishing with her dad, working in her garden and yard with her roses, but her true passion, was quilting. Her award winning quilts displayed her talents and each quilt she made for family members was touched with love. She was the organizer and heart of our family and will be dearly missed.

Avis is survived by her husband, Owen Higginbotham of Peshastin; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen (Stephen) Ross of Peshastin; son, Dale (Kellie) Higginbotham of Cashmere; sisters, Marie (Blaine) Hurst of Sevierville, TN, Lillie Mae (George) Franklin of Cashmere, Wilda Ward of Leavenworth and Doris (David) Nierman of Dryden; brother, John (Hazel) Rayfield of Wenatchee; ten grandchildren, Tiffany, Kyle, Owen, Scott, Bill, Shane, David, Dane, Nathan and Darby; five great-grandchildren, Halee, Marriah, Logan, Keiphen and Raegan. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Curtis; and her son, Bill.

Roy Dean Higginbotham passed away in his home with family by his side on December 28, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Chewelah, July 16, 1939. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest. He served in the Navy for 10 years, was a professional all around rodeo cowboy, truck driver and retired as a heavy equipment operator. He liked to spend his days fishing at Waitts Lake. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years Sheena, and children; Glen of New Orleans Louisiana, Truman of Spokane and Mark and wife Jennifer of Spokane; stepdaughters Zella and Mary, both of Spokane; many grandchildren including Ryan, who he loved very much. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Spokane Cremation and Burial on 2832 North Ruby at 2pm. Mary Elizabeth (Higginbotham) Webb, born to Thomas R. Higginbotham and Clara M. (Schrock) Higginbotham on September 5, 1920 in Hartline, WA, died in her sleep February 12, 2011 at home in Bothell, WA. Youngest of seven children, and known as 'Babe,' she graduated from Eastern Washington College and began a short teaching career. In 1945 she married Benton V. Webb in Norfolk, VA. They settled in the Seattle area where they raised three children Steve, Maribeth and Gwen. Her interests included bowling, bridge and golf. Mary was extremely proud of her club championship and Hole-in-one at the Nile Golf and Country Club. Survived by Ben, her husband of 65 years, and children: Steve, daughter Carla; Maribeth (Lee) Williams, children Brent (Kim), Betsy Guernsey (Brian) and Sarah; and Gwen (Duane) Bowman, children Jessica, Andrew (Jennifer) and Aaron. They also have three great granddaughters, Claire and Lucy Williams and Brooklyn Guernsey. Mary was laid to rest during a family graveside service February 18th at Restlawn Memorial Park in Edmonds. A Celebration of Mary's life will be held Saturday, March 5th at 5:00 p.m. at the Nile Golf and Country Club. Joy started formal education at "Old Central" in Kirkland WA. She graduated from Kirkland HS with the class of 1941. Joy earned a license in cosmetology at the school in Bremerton after her graduation from HS and married Earl Roger Hill on February 7th 1942 in Seattle WA where they made their first home. Their son Roger was born in 1943 and daughter Sandra in 1946. They moved to the Skagit Hydro Electric Project (Newhalem) in 1950 where son Randy 1956 and son Michael 1961 were born. The couple retired from Seattle City Light in 1982 and moved to their retirement home in Tulalip, WA. Joy learned to play the violin and piano and with her husband, volunteered with other musicians (Old Time Fiddler group) to play music at social events and senior living facilities for many years in Snohomish County. Joy's other enjoyable hobbies were painting, Knitting, Sewing and Crocheting. Preceding in death were son Roger, husband Earl granddaughter Debbie and great granddaughter baby Ashley. Joy is survived by daughter Sandra, sons Randy and Michael, 9 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and relatives. There will be no formal memorial service but friends and family of Joy can come to remember her at Shafer- Shipman Funeral Home 804 State Ave Marysville, WA on Saturday November 19 from 12:00-4:00pm.

James Ellis Higginbotham Was born on June 15, 1922 in Illmo, MO, the youngest child of James Higginbotham, an employee of the railroad, and his homemaker mother, Elizabeth. James, his brother, and three sisters were raised in Dupo, IL on the confluence of the Mississippi River and the bustling railroad tracks, which likely instilled the idea that there was much more life waiting beyond their small town. At the tender age of 16, he joined the US Army as WWII was brewing. During his 30-year military career he served honorably in three wars, earning two Bronze Star medals and two Purple Hearts. He retired from the Army at Ft. Lewis, WA, and became a federal corrections officer at McNeil Island Federal Penitentiary. To his delight, he was ferried to work from Steilacoom to McNeil Island on the beautiful Puget Sound for the next decade. He transferred to Lompoc, CA on the central coast, where he worked another 7 years before retiring. He and his beloved wife Um Jun then spent the rest of their years alternating between adventures abroad and a quiet life in the small western-style town of Orcutt, CA. James passed away peacefully on February 21, and on March 12 he will join Um Jun, who is already at rest in Arlington National Cemetery. Their travels will continue on the path of souls. He is survived by his children John and Liz, their spouses Suzzette and Greg, and grandchildren Ryan, Russell, Maneth, and Tona. Beverly Higginbotham Layton 90, long-time resident of the Seattle area. Died October 10, 2012. Beloved mother of Brent (Pam), Debra, and Tamara (Mike); grandmother of Keenan. Preceded in death by her husband Floyd in 1981. She was born in Ogden, Utah, and attended Weber State College but left school to work in a POW hospital at the outbreak of WWII. She married Floyd in 1947 and dedicated her life to her husband and children, who were always surrounded by love. She and Floyd loved to dance and have good times with their many friends. She always made the best of multiple family moves that resulted from Floyd's work at Boeing, including Pasadena and Barstow, CA, and England. Beverly was a long time "Cookie Lady" at the Puget Sound Blood Bank in Bellevue. She was the ultimate gracious hostess and everyone who entered her home always felt very welcome. In her own quiet way, she embraced change and adventure, and enjoyed traveling in her later years. Private Burial, Sunset Hills Memorial Park, Bellevue. Celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers remembrances are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

Mabel Rose Higginbotham passed away September 16, 2013 at her home in Chehalis. Mabel was born August 17, 1934 to Everil and Claire Doucet. Her husband Joseph survives her. A Traditional Catholic Mass will be held Friday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cattermole Funeral Home Chapel in Winlock with Father Casimir Puskorius CMRI officiating. Betty Lou (Higginbotham) Flathers, 65, of Tieton, Washington, passed away May 3, 2014, peacefully at home with her husband and children by her side. Betty was born on September 25, 1948, in Hodge, Louisiana, to Novie and Eddie Dude Higginbotham. Betty had eight siblings: Bennie Mazie, Ausbin Mazie, Patsy (Higginbotham) Leonard, Charles Higginbotham, Peggy Marie Higginbotham, Lantis Higginbotham, Eddie Wayne Higginbotham and Rodger Higginbotham. Betty moved from Hodge, Louisiana, to Cowiche, Washington, when she was seven. Betty married Irvin (Gene) Flathers, the love of her life, in Tieton, Washington, on May 20, 1966. Betty and Gene moved to Packwood, Washington, where they raised two daughters and a son. Betty and Gene lived in Packwood for 33 years before later returning to Tieton, Washington, in 2001. Betty's primary occupation was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed making a home for her husband and raising their three children. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing the piano, playing cards and dice with her family and friends, bowling, fishing, sewing, cooking and planting and maintaining flowers. Betty adored small children. After dropping out of school due to illness, Betty returned and achieved her GED through Centralia College of which she was very proud. To the people Betty knew, enjoyed and loved she would like to say thank-you for being my friend. Betty is survived by her husband Gene of Tieton; her daughter Tonja (Mike) Matchett of Packwood; her daughter Fawnn (Chad) Anderson of Packwood; her son Bradley (Jennifer) Flathers of Glenoma,; granddaughter Teela Bates of Packwood; granddaughter Rebecca Bates of Packwood; grandson Jake Flathers of Glenoma; granddaughter Kristin (Stephen) Whittaker of Gresham, Oregon; granddaughter Ashley Matchett of Gresham, Oregon; grandson Alex Anderson of Packwood; granddaughter Sydney Anderson of Texas; two great-granddaughters Alexis and Jenna Whittaker of Gresham, Oregon and a brother Rodger (Lillie) Higginbotham of Yakima. PULLMAN, WASH. - Clovis Dunn Higginbotham died on May 5, 2014, his 88th birthday, in Pullman, WA after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Kerby Higginbotham; daughter, Claudia Delgado of Pullman, married to Carmelo; son, Toby Higginbotham of Houston, married to Janie; and grandson, Garrett Higginbotham of Houston. As a Marine in WWII, he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained on Iwo Jima. He was a 1951 graduate of Texas A&M and was a proud A&M football fan. Clovis and Martha lived in Lafayette for over 40 years. He was in the oil service industry and owned Louisiana Wireline, Inc. He was an avid golfer at Oak Bourne Country Club, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and he volunteered for Meals on Wheels. His children will honor him at a private memorial service in Pullman.

Kristin Linnae Higginbotham, 26, of Bothell WA joined the angels in heaven on June 21, 2014. Kristin was born March 24, 1988 to Julie and Brian Higginbotham. Kristin is survived by her father Brian & stepmother Mamie; her mother Julie Chase & Julie's fiance; Pat Healy; her brother Kevin (Ashley), nephew Garnet; her sister Kailin; step sisters Anita Kolendar (Jess), nephews Tristan & Gaige; Cristina (Thomas) Holmes, nephew Elijah & niece Mia; Mary Kolendar and Caryn Swanson; Aunt DeeDee (Steve) Coughtry, cousin Kimberlee; Uncle Kelly Chase (Heather); Auntie Angelina; Grandparents Laurie Higginbotham, Bob Chase and Barbara Jones as well as numerous extended family and close friends. Predeceased by her beloved "Boppa" Grandpa Higginbotham. Kristin attended Kokanee Elementary, Canyon Park Jr. High and Bothell High (2006). She attended Central Washington University (2007) and Washington State University (Vancouver) earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (2010). She continued her education at City University earning the Degree of Master of Education Guidance & Counseling (2012). Kristin worked at Canyon Park Jr. High as a substitute counselor for the past 2 years. She was also a nanny for many years developing close bonds with the children she cared for. Kristin played many sports growing up; her favorites were softball and soccer. She also loved snowboarding. While she will ever be known for her contagious smile and laugh, her teammates also knew her for her competiveness and fierce determination on the field. She was a free spirit who loved to travel and journal about her life adventures. She loved being a student and loved to read. While preparing to join the Peace Corps in Guyana, Kristin met the love of her life, Mitchell Chicha. While their relationship was cut short by her passing, those who knew them could see their passion, friendship and love for each other. Kristin was a young woman of faith. She believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love, and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday July 13, 2014 at Northlake Christian Church; 19029 North Road, Bothell, WA 98012. The service will be followed by a reception.

HIGGINBOTHAM, Sheena (Age 69) Sheena was born on February 24th, 1945 and passed away November 16th, 2014 in Spokane, WA surrounded by family. She is survived by her children, Zella Hall, Mary Hall, Mark Higginbotham; and her grandson Ryan Higginbotham. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Higginbotham. Sheena passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was a loved wife and mother and will be missed greatly. At her request there will be no service. Sheena will be buried along side her husband at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.

Sarah Saunders was a mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt, as well as a co-worker and friend to many. After growing up in Alabama, Sarah volunteered for and served honorably as a Navy WAVE during World War II. An Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class, Sarah was stationed at Norfolk, VA. After the war, she moved to Puyallup, Washington to start a family, where she spent the balance of her adult life. Ms. Saunders is survived by her children Shelley Elaine Saunders (Andy Benjamin) of Seattle, WA and Gregory Charles Saunders of Puyallup, WA, and grandchildren Nathan Saunders Benjamin and Megan Elizabeth Saunders. Preceded in death by her grand-daughter Katherine Rose Saunders, sister Margaret Dunn and brothers Carl, Clifford and Pete Higginbotham, Sarah "Ellen" is survived by her sisters Faye Hathcock and Anne Awtry and brothers Benjamin (Laura) and Jerry ("Bo") Higginbotham, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of the State of Alabama. Bunny held many jobs during her work life: most notably her over thirty years working the box office as a ticket cashier at the Western Washington Fair, as a seamstress at Elvin's Department Store and VIP Cleaners, playground supervisor at Ezra Meeker Elementary School, Pierce County Outreach, as well as jobs at Coppin's Hardware and at the Ordinance Depot in Pierce County. She also provided needed care to many in the community. Her volunteer work included serving in leadership with the PTA of Meeker Elementary, Pierce County Senior Services, First Methodist Church of Puyallup and in Camp Fire. For several years, she volunteered at Warren Hunt Elementary School helping youngsters learn how to read. Bunny enjoyed life with friends, whether it be bowling at the Daffodil Bowl, playing Bunco, socializing at the Eagles, doing water aerobics at the YMCA or sharing a meal.

Jerry R. Higginbotham, 79, of Lakewood, Washington, passed away at 7:03 am on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Born in 1937 and raised on a farm in Oneonta, Alabama, Jerry received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Jacksonville State University, fulfilled his dream of becoming a high school teacher, and enrolled in the Army’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corp—all before the age of 23.

Jerry dedicated the next 29 years of his life to his country, honorably serving on three continents during both war- and peacetime. After earning numerous service and campaign medals plus attaining the rank of Colonel, he retired from Fort Lewis in 1988.

After retirement, Jerry explored the Pacific Northwest, partaking in fishing charters from Neah Bay, hiking Mount Rainier, muzzleloader hunting on the Olympic Peninsula, and skiing in the Cascades.

In recent years, he was content rooting for the Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies, Vols, and Tide from his favorite recliner with his beloved Pug, Kuma.

Jerry was also a loyal friend and steadfast family man. He is deeply missed by many friends and family members, including his wife, Kyoko (Kawakami) Higginbotham; his children, Laura (John), Teresa (Jeff), Mark (Margie), and Kathie (Mark); four grandchildren; and brother, Roger Higginbotham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Faye (Whitley) Higginbotham, and his sister, Patricia Johnson.

Graveside service with military funeral honors will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery at 9:00 am on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Loving Wife and Mother. Born in Joliet, Illinois June 1, 1931, June passed July 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Durwood T. Higginbotham. June retired from the Washington State Liquor stores and was a lifetime member of Eastern Star. Bobby Ray Higginbotham, 81, of Tieton, passed away February 25, 2018. Bobby was born in Louisiana to John Henry and Ora Higginbotham on January 28, 1937. He worked as an apple orchardist in the Tieton area for 45+ years. He had a knack for details and could tell you what year each tree had been planted. He enjoyed watching all the Highland Scotties basketball games and was often found in the stands in the same seats year after year, season after season. He was a hard worker and quit school at an early age to provide for his brothers and sisters. His entire family and friends would agree that Bobby was always a very hard working, loyal and incredibly generous person. He enjoyed spending time with his large and loving family but he had a special place in his heart for his grand-kids: Natalie, Hannah, Joe and Sam. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elsie Higginbotham, his daughter Pam Clark, daughter Terrie Walters, and too many more relatives to list on only one page. Christine (Chris) Slaven, age 79 of Mercer Island, WA passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 after a very short illness. She was surrounded in love by her daughters. Chris was born in Annapolis, Maryland. Born into a Navy family, Chris moved often and eventually ended up in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a proud graduate of the University of Hawaii graduating in Education, English and Philosophy. Chris made the courageous move to the mainland, choosing Seattle as her new home in 1974 for her children & their educational pursuits. After teaching a short while in the Lake Washington School District, Chris went to work for Boeing Computer Services as a Procurement Specialist supporting technology and eventually data centers. She retired from Boeing in 2001 to start a life which was full of fun and adventure. Chris was a member of the Washington Athletic Club where she enjoyed Pilates. She was also a member of the Seattle Public Library where she participated in "Let's Talk About Books", a book club where she had a lot of fun and had many friends. Although her vision had been failing her over the years, Chris was the most well-read woman. With the use of Audible, Chris read approximately 240 books since 2013, rereading the classics as well as all genres except for sci-fi and fantasy. In recent years, Chris became a member of the Women's University Club where she was involved in everything her schedule allowed including book clubs, religion classes and art history classes to name a few. She enjoyed the club and its members immensely. Chris was a lifelong learner and her activities & pursuits showed this. Chris spent a fair amount of time traveling when she retired. Until a few years ago, Chris would spend 3-6 months in Honolulu each year which was her second home. She also traveled through Russia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Sweden. She spent a lot of time with her daughter Shawn when she lived in Stockholm, Manhattan and London. They were always on some sort of adventure whether it was seeing a show on Broadway or having midnight mass at St. Paul's Cathedral on Christmas eve. One of Chris' favorite things to do was spending time at the family beach house on Harstine Island. She would explore the tidepools with her grandchildren, walk the miles of beaches and trails and soak up the beauty. Chris spent Mother's Day this year with her family where her grandchildren made her a wonderful brunch. Chris was active until the last few days of her life. Her goal was to put 10,000 steps on her Fitbit which she often attained. Known to all as funny, her sense of humor could bring you to your knees in laughter. Her view of the world through her eyes was compassionate, humorous and realistic all at once. She was incensed by the current administration, how the country was being run and view of the US in the world landscape. Chris was a lifelong democrat. Chris leaves behind her daughters, Tane and Shawn of Bellevue, WA as well as her beloved grandchildren Catherine (13), Grace (12) and Rinat (10) all of Bellevue as well. She is survived by her brother Ken Higginbotham (Ava) of Eden Prairie, MN. She had many friends who loved her dearly. Chris will be incredibly missed. A celebration of life will be held on June 25, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Women's University Club at 1105 6th Ave, Seattle, WA 98101. Parking will be available at both the club as well as the Hilton Hotel a block south. In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctor's without Borders which was an organization that Chris fervently supported would be appreciated. She was continually in awe of the work they achieved in the most dangerous places on earth.

Julie Sellberg (formerly Higginbotham and Huntoon), passed away on December 10, 2018, with her loving family by her side. She is survived by her husband, Jim, son, Mark, daughter, Jennifer, and daughter, Danelle, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Julie enjoyed volunteering on the Greenway in Yakima, working diligently in her amazing garden, and was an avid animal lover. In lieu of flowers, she has requested that those wishing to honor her make a donation to an animal shelter or yakimagreenway.org. She chose not to have a service but asked her family to throw a party in her honor, which will happen in Spring/Summer 2019.

Elsie Lee Higginbotham went home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2019. She was born on September 17, 1939 in Jonesboro, Louisiana. She moved to Washington and graduated from Highland High in 1957 and married Bob Higginbotham the same year. Elsie worked 30+ years in their orchard in Tieton and as a sorter for Strand’s Warehouse. She loved and raised 2 daughters, Pam Clark and Terrie Walters, as well as 4 grandchildren: Natalie Clark, Joe Clark, Hannah Biesemeyer and Sam Clark. She was always so supportive and proud of her grandchildren. Elsie loved her brothers and sisters, which she is one of 9, and loved family parties and barbecues. She attended Tieton Baptist Church with her sister Odessa Taylor for many years. Elsie loved watching sports especially LSU, Saints, Mariners and Seahawks. Elsie was a long-time supporter of the Highland Scotties and could often be seen sitting in the same section of bleachers year after year. Elsie loved to tease and had a great sense of humor. She was a hard worker and patient woman who inspired her daughters to look up to her and aspire to emulate her beliefs. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Higginbotham this past year. They would have been married 62 years this summer. The family would like to thank the staff at Highgate Senior Living and Memorial Hospice for their care of Elsie. There will be a visitation Friday January 25th from 4-8 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. Jessica Robin Higginbotham was born August 28, 1979 in Yakima, Washington to Ed and Sharon Delp of Zillah, WA. Jessie was a lifelong Zillah resident and graduated from Zillah High School in 1997. Shortly after graduation Jessie gave birth to one of her greatest treasures of her life, her beautiful baby girl Alexcis Brieann Higginbotham. Jessie attended YVCC while raising her daughter and chasing her dream of becoming a teacher because she wanted to make a difference in the world through the eyes of children that she would teach in the future. While attending YVCC she met her future husband Jarod Higginbotham of Cowiche, WA and they began to raise their daughter together and work towards her goal of being a teacher. Jessie finished her degree at Heritage College while student teaching at Toppenish Elementary and then went on to be a 5th grade teacher at her first job in Granger for the next five years. Jessie then transferred to Zillah School District shortly after getting married to Jarod. In 2006 she had a second child and her other treasure in life, Hunter Eddie Higginbotham. After Hunter was born it was always a mad dash chasing the kids to all of their basketball, baseball, softball, dance, volleyball, school plays, concerts, hunting, fishing or any event that involved her family so she could be there to cheer them on. After being diagnosed with cancer in July of 2017 Jessie hit the challenge head on and continued to take treatment and still work and maintain being a mother fighting every step of the way. In January of 2018 things took a turn for the worst for her and the cancer began to inhibit many of the things she could do daily but she still fought like a valiant warrior at every task, test or treatment that was thrown at her. On January 29, 2019 at 12:50 AM Jessie lost her battle with cancer, she never gave up and fought a fight that anyone would be proud of. She will be missed by many and admired by all for the fighting spirit she had that could not be matched by another. Jessie is survived by her parents Ed Delp and Sharon Delp of Zillah, husband Jarod Higginbotham of Zillah, children Alexcis & Hunter Higginbotham of Zillah, brother and sister Ben and Liz Delp and their children Trey Delp, Claysen Delp, Callie Rae Delp, brother Todd Delp (Portia DeLude) and their children Avery Delude, Lily Delp, Valerie Delp and great niece Kinsley Delp; mother-in-law Rodger & Lillie Higginbotham of Cowiche, brother-in-law Clint Higginbotham and nephew Khahil Higginbotham. Jessie is also survived by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Jessie was loved by many and will be missed by all. The service for Jessie will be held at the Nazarene Church in Zillah on Feb. 2, 2019 at 1 pm followed by a graveside service at the Zillah cemetery and a dinner at the Nazarene Church after.

Durwood Gregory "Greg" Higginbotham left his earthly body March 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, WA. Greg was the first child born July 8, 1950 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Durwood and June Higginbotham. Greg and his family moved to Tacoma, Washington where in 1968 he graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation Greg served in the Armed Forces from 1968 - 1975. Following his service Greg spent 30 plus years in the Plumbing Industry ending with 10 years at Ferguson Plumbing. Greg had three daughters and one son. He married the love of his life, Linda in South Lake Tahoe. Greg loved watching Nascar, seeing his beloved Seahawks play, and to show off his amazing dance moves. He was one schnazzy dancer! Whowee could he dance! Greg is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Kimberly, Danielle, Leslie, Lacey; and his siblings, Gary, Gayle, Gwen, and Gerald. Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Durwood and June; and niece, Theresa Casteel Greenhalgh. Bob was born November 29, 1926 to Lawrence and Lillian Higinbotham in Port Angeles, Washington. He grew up in Pysht, Washington, a small logging community. There, he learned to love fishing, hunting and crabbing. When he was 14 years old, he caught a 63 pound Chinook salmon, a local news story.

During World War II, he attended Clallam Bay High School and excelled at basketball. He often had to jog 13 miles home from practice due to wartime coastal blackouts. His graduation was on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Bob spent one year at the University of Washington which established him as a Husky fan.

In his early work life, he was a logger for six years around Oregon and Washington.

From 1950-1952, he served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following Korea, he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, studying electronics, leading to his employment at Boeing as a radar technician for eight years.

On May 17, 1958, he married Barbara Jean Harman at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Port Angeles. The couple lived in Kirkland, Washington with their two boys, Larry and Alan before moving to Corvallis where their daughter Jeanie was born. Bob was employed by the US Postal Service for 23 years until his retirement in 1989.

Bob’s interests included family fishing, gardening, crabbing, viewing all sports, country music and creatively planning vacations around the Northwest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Barbara in 2015 after 58 years of marriage.

He is survived by children, Larry, Alan and Jeanie Higinbotham; and grandchildren Eric, Katie and Sienna Higinbotham.

Walter C Higginbotham Born October 10, 1930, in Bossburg, Washington to John and Goldie Higginbotham. Walter passed away on October 16, 2019, at his home in Shelton. He is survived by; wife Lorena, and three children, Walter Jr., Christina Dietz and Donald. Also, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He lived in Ione, went to school there, and worked in the Grandview mine after graduating. Also the cement plant and Box Canyon Dam. Then he moved to Renton, WA., and went to trade school and worked as a carpenter until he started his own business building homes, Post Offices, nursing homes and did remodeling, etc. His hobbies were horseshoe pitching, golf, stained glass, reading, and helping others. Services will be held November 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm, at the graveside at Shelton Memorial Park Cemetery, 1605 Van Buren St., Shelton, WA., 98584. Jerry Jay Higginbotham, Jr. (1962-2019) CA/WA

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, our brother Jerry passed away at the age of 57, due to COPD. Jerry was born on August 8, 1962 in Napa, CA. The lone boy in the middle of four sisters. He attended schools in Benicia, CA. He survived a rare skin cancer, called Mycosis Fungoides, in his early 20’s. Jerry loved to sing, and his world revolved around music! Playing guitar, accumulating music, recording himself singing, creating karaoke studios, recording others singing, dialing in the perfect sound. He left us the gift of over 700 recordings in his Smule App. Find him @iJer. His life was never complete without a dog in it. I know Smokie, Mackie, & Behringer are all glad to be reunited with their “dad”. As one of his favorite songs said, he was “King of the Road”. Jerry moved around between CA, OR, MT, and WA throughout his adult life. Always seeking the next adventure, he would move around and spend time by different family members. Jerry married Kathy Fowler in 1982 and they had one son, Matthew Higginbotham. Jerry married Brenda Baldwin in 2005. Together, they raised one son, Noah Snow. He was preceded in death by his mother, Twila Knight; his Gram, Erma Hearon; his grandpa, Stanley B. Hale; his grandma, Alie Hale; Uncles Ron & Rick Knight, cousin Jerry Alatorre; nephew Samuel Kowing; and finally by his “Irish twin”, Gina Lee, on January 28th, 2019. She was also 57. His siblings will miss them both so very much and are devastated by these losses so close together. He is survived by his sons, Matthew and Noah; his grandchildren, Ashten, Madisyn, and Memphis Higginbotham; his sisters: Ricky Kreis (Erik) of Belgrade, Montana, Shiela Kowing (Joe) of John Day, Oregon, Amy Berkheimer (Lonnie) of Yakima, WA; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A special thank you to Cottage in the Meadow for your tender care of our brother his last 24 hours. Kathi Louise Brown Higginbotham (1962-2019) WA

HIGGINBOTHAM, Kathi Louise "Katie" (Age 57) Kathi "Katie" Louise Higginbotham went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 15, 2019 following a long illness. Her loving husband of more than 20 years was by her side. Her son, Justin Howard, her step daughter Lindsey Higginbotham and her brother, Charlie Brown were also with her in Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a beautiful, brown eyed, loving, kind, bighearted soul who loved and cared so much for her family and friends. She was born September 17, 1962 in Kirkland, Washington to Richard and Beverly Brown who preceded her in death. She is also survived by her sister, Kelli Pratt of Kirkland, Washington, her step mother, Mona Brown of Oak Harbor, Washington, stepson Riley Higginbotham of Spokane and her eight year old grandson, Mason Higginbotham. She also has six stepsisters and a stepbrother scattered around the country. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Katie loved cooking and always prepared the most sumptuous family feasts for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and other special occasions. The prototypical mama and grandma she never wanted anyone to go hungry. She loved fishing, boating, camping, traveling by RV (for seven years) watching WSU and Seahawks football, summer picnics around her swimming pool and most of all family gatherings with her children and friends. She had a ready smile for everyone and they were always welcome in her home. She loved a good joke and had an infectious laugh that always tickled John. A favorite snappy come back she always said when someone said: "how are you doing?" was always "Darn swell","How bout you?" Her ashes will be kept by John. When he passes the ashes will be mixed and half scattered in favorite locales they visited around the country. The other half of Katie and John will go in the columbarium in the Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington. A celebration of life will be conducted in the near future by John and the children. Shirley Higginbotham (1949-2020) WA

On Wednesday November 25, 2020 Shirley Higginbotham, loving mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 71. Shirley was born on March 1, 1949 and resided in Longview Wash. She achieved her license of Cosmetology on March 17, 1981 and provided services for many in Longview. Shirley was an award winning square dancer, excellent seamstress and embroiderer. Though she lived modestly she contributed to St. Jude hospital and disabled veterans. Shirley was quiet but dynamic. She taught those who were close to her to " live and let live" and if you had a complaint to take it to the Lord. She loved her family, pizza, gardening and had a passion for making quilts and knitted blankets for her loved ones. Shirley will be cherished and missed by many. Ronald Higginbotham (1936-2022) NY/WA

Bellingham, Washington - After a 6 month bout with cancer, and surrounded by family, Ron Higginbotham, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 3, 2022. Ron was born to Mary (Schultz) and Robert Corbett Higginbotham on April 23, 1936 in Greenport Long Island, New York. His only sibling, Richard was born two years later. The family moved to the South, primarily living in Atlanta, Georgia. After high school Ron attended Auburn University on a football scholarship and then transferred and graduated from Georgia Tech. After being in the work force, he received a Forestry degree from the University of Georgia, where he met his wife, Emily Hitchcock, and they married on Dec. 21, 1963. He accepted a job with the U.S. Forest Service in Montana. In 1970 he and his wife, along with their young children, Timothy and Rachel, moved to British Columbia, Canada, where they were missionaries for 29 years with North American Indigenous Ministries (NAIM). They retired to Bellingham in 1999.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Emily, his son Timothy (Lana) Higginbotham, daughter Rachel (Matt) Fletcher, 6 grandchildren; Brooke, Jordan and Madison Higginbotham; Pavitra, Christian and Scout Fletcher, and great granddaughter, Isla Jade Higginbotham.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday January 14, 2023 at Christ the King Church on 4173 Meridian St. Bellingham, followed by a reception. Interment will be a family time.

Marilyn Ann Higginbotham Nelson (1943-2023) WA
November 5, 1943 - January 5, 2023

Marilyn Ann (Higginbotham) Nelson was born on November 5, 1943 in Seattle, Washington. With her cherished dogs by her side, Marilyn passed away on January 5, 1943 in her Monroe home.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Leslie and Harriet (McKenzie) Higginbotham, her husband George Edmund "Ed" Nelson and her sister Judy Thomson-Wells. She is survived by her sister Karen Bodine and nephews Jeff Thomson, David Trevor Bodine and Derek Thomson.
Marilyn's early years were filled with family trips, especially to the California beaches, and she was the designated hitter for the neighborhood baseball games. Marilyn graduated from Shoreline High School in 1963 then completed a 2-year program for meat cutting and butchery. The Puget Sound remained home through Marilyn's adult life where she married Ed in 1977 and eventually found their piece of paradise in Monroe. A sports fan, Marilyn didn't miss a world series or a championship game and would often cheer and holler while watching games on tv. She had a love for music and enjoyed the years touring with her dear friend, a celebrated musician. More than sports and more than music, Marilyn loved her dogs and spending time playing, doting and caring for them.
She shared her love with family and friends and will be dearly missed. Marilyn will be remembered in a private ceremony. It would please Marilyn to consider a donation a local Humane Society.
